Chipped MOP block inlay
Chipped MOP block inlay
So I'm hammering away at the 2nd fret because I wanted it nice and tight and a big chip came out of the MOP inlay and disappeared. I drop filled with ca glue and pearl dust which turned out to be a disaster. I ground that out and refilled with ca glue and sanded flush. It's still not great. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Grind out the entire inlay and replace it. No other viable options.

Re: Chipped MOP block inlay
Hammers and pearl don't seem to mix well. I have damaged inlays a time or two, and the broken piece needs to be replaced.
I bet you will be more careful with your hammer in the future. This is another good argument for pressing frets in rather than hammering.

True enough. Looks like my next purchase is a fret press.
