Paul Kincaid's 2nd archtop guitar

Post by Paul Kincaid »

Finally done and delivered, here is my 2nd archtop, and my first dyed finish. African blackwood fingerboard, tailpiece, and headstock veneer. PRS Dragon II pickups. Figured mahogany neck. Maple top, back, and sides. Full hollow with no block or core. Spruce parallel bracing. SS frets. Spanish heel neck joint. Custom blackwood and abalone switch tip.

That's a cool guitar. I love the tint job. How does it sound unplugged , and why a spanish heel for the neck joint?

That tip on the switch is a nice touch!

David's question is of interest to me, too. why would you use a Spanish Heel here?

I went with the Spanish heel mostly because it is how I have been making my ukuleles recently. It also lends itself well to the complete lack of space around the neck joint due to the 24th fret body join and neck pickup position.

Very cool guitar Paul. Very PRSish. Is it pretty much for a plugged in situation or does it hold its own acoustically?

I would say that it's quite a lot louder than a 335 or other semi-hollow, but doesn't have the bass response of a larger full hollow instrument.
