Fretless Lacewood / Redwood Burl bass
I've just started this project it is coming along nicely so far.
The neck is mahogany/ebony 12" radius. The back of the body is 1" lacewood , there is a center layer of claro walnut ( left over from my last project and to knotty for a top) the top is birdseye Redwood Burl.

Oh man I think that design is really cool. I also love thru necks, so I have guitar envy
I have a lot of experience on how "not" to do things.

Got the walnut center glued on and shaped , and the top rough fitted and shaped . Slowly coming together...

A "nut to nut" comparison with my Jazz fretless. As you can see the new one has a petite body and superior access ( plus a 2 "fret" longer neck) .
It almost feels like a guitar , despite the full 34" scale.

Re: Fretless Lacewood / Redwood Burl bass
I decided to get creative as I gave it 24 "fret" access to extend the fingerboard a bit with a section that mimics the tail , I'll stain it darker to match the ebony later .

5 coats of deep vintage amber stain with just a touch of cherry , each coat back sanded back down clean with 220 grit.
Scalloped and stained the extension .. I'm pleased .. the pic is with an alcohol wipe to give an idea of what the finish will look like

Very nice! That redwood top is gorgeous.
I need your help. I can't possibly make all the mistakes myself!

Looks great!
Nice work on matching that busy grain and not letting it take over too.
