Pistachio as a top wood

Ask your wood and other materials questions here. Please DO NOT post pictures and ask us to identify your wood, we have found that accurate ID is nearly impossible, and such discussions will be deleted. Thanks.

Pistachio as a top wood

Post by Alan Peterson »

Up on Gavin Wilson's wonderful Guitarz.Blogspot web page, he's showing a pic of a guitar with a top made from pistachio lumber:

This stuff looks incredible. How hard is it to get pistachio wood and has anyone else used it?

Very nice! Obviously from the graft section of the trunk.
But forget about the top - look at that hunk of POC it's sitting on! Now that is a nice piece of wood!

Oregon Wild wood has these pistachio tops. As an aside they tend to do a lousy job guestimating the thickness of their tops. Their '1/4"' top will finish out at 3/16" or less.
