New dulcimer for my boss
A few years ago I built a mountain dulcimer for the acoustic challenge on this forum. My boss saw it and told me he always wanted to learn to play the dulcimer. I found out about 6 weeks ago that he was retiring this month, so I started to build him a teardrop dulcimer. I gave it to him today and he said that he loved it. He has been a great leader, and we have all benifited from his support over the years. The back is claro walnut and cherry. The sides are California black walnut, and the soundboard is some very nice Alaskian bearclaw spruce I bought from our sponcer "Alaskian Specialty Woods. com". I bought 5 star dulcimer tuners from Stewmac.com. They are also very nice. I also bought a hardshell case from folkcraft to put it in. Here are a few pictures.

Dang, that's a classy job! The peghead is great, with those curls, and I REALLY like the back. Very nice gift!

It's easy to see why your boss loves it. It's a great looking instrument. I love it too - especially the sound holes, along with all the rest.

Great looking dulcimer! Love the head and the back. If only all bosses could warrant such gifts!

Outstanding work with lots of creative touches. Your boss must be an outstanding person.

That back is beautiful. The dimensions of the middle wedge compliment the shape and everything. Too bad it will be on his lap the whole time <g>

Nice work and good to have a boss that you appreciate and who appreciates you
I really like the peghead, simple and elegant. Is it maple or cherry for the middle block?

Hi Warren: The center block is maple. And yes, it is great to have a boss that supports you, and one that you respect. Harvey always wanted us to be creative, and made it easy to do our best work. He will be missed!
