I am bout to glue my binding and purfling which consists of two bands ob bwb with a teflon strip between them for a shell inlay and the binding strip. I have read about using ca glue for this. how does one do this without gluing fingers to the binding? I have also noted when doing trial pieces the it isn't really an instant bond. How long does it take for the glue to take hold?
I have been think of using ca for the initial gluing where there are miters and the using titebond of the rest.Do these glues mix well?

Re: Gluing bindings
What is the binding material? Use a glue that is suitable for that. If you are going to use CA to glue this up you will have some difficulty removing the teflon strips. You need the surfaces sealed so they can't wick up CA into end grain. that means you need a sealer all over the top, back, sides and in the binding ledges.
Do you have a contrast line at the lower edges of the binding along the sides? If you do it should be glued to the edge of the binding, otherwise you will have your hands rather full as you install the bindings. The ledges must be perfect so there are no areas for glue to pool, the bindings must fit easily with very little if any pressure, and you put them in all at the same time with Duco clear acetone base glue. It takes practice to do it smoothly and get it all wrapped up (bound) so the glue can dry. If you are using wood binding you can use regular wood glue.
If you anchor your miters with CA make sure it is cured before using other glue. CA on any plastic will take several hours to harden well, before that it is easily disturbed and messed up.
