$64 Question

Post by DJ Parker »

Ok. It is getting to that point on my first two builds. What is the general consensus on the fretboard: fretting the board first or fretting it while on the neck. I can see pros and cons to both but I though some discussion would be helpful.

Thank you everyone,

There is no wrong order. The results you need are what should determine how you go about it.

Both ways can give excellent results. But I prefer to fret after gluing. Reason............?? If freted before gluing you have two surfaces that have to be true before you glue on the board. Fretting after and you have one surface to worry about after gluing. Easier for me.

I've done it both ways, and don't think it makes any difference at all, as long as the FB is kept clamped flat until attached....

Andrew, did you mean "slotted" rather than fretted? I've never seen fretted fb at SM.
