I want to use a brushed varnish finish on a 000 12 fret build. I have no facilities for spray and want to try something a bit more protective than FP.
I've used Tru-oil on necks and gunstocks, although I usually use DemBart stock oil, and have done so on the neck of this build but am really not interested in using that on the body.
Behelen's Rockhard seems to have disappeared from the market and there is not Pratt and Lambert [#38] dealer in my area.
I have used Epifhanes for decades for brightwork on classic wooden boats and it has always been my preferred "spar" varnish.
Does any one have any experience with this product for an instrument? And/Or, more importantly general information as to why this varnish is okay or is NOT appropriate.
Thanks
Mike

Re: Epiphanes Varnish?
There are plenty of builders who use Epifhanes. One who comes to mind is Laurent Brondel.

Thanks Waddy. I put A LOT of stock in your opinions.
Also any recommendations on how much to thin the varnish for this application?

Look him up on line and ask him. I've never used it. I have finished completely with Tru-Oil though, and it's pretty good.
