What angle is recommended to use when sharpening a chisel? I was using 25 degrees, am trying 15 degrees but am getting the sharp edge to bugger up in use. May have to go back to 25. Thanks for the help.
Danny
ps Do you have chisels sharpened at different angles for different tasks? For example one of neck heel carving and others for cutting purfling angles etc?

Yes, different angles for different tasks.
Most of my go-to chisels are kept at 25°, with a micro-bevel of 30°, but I have one sharpened at 90°(yes, 90) and another at around 80°. The 90 is excellent for cleaning glue squeeze-out without risk of it "biting" into the work, and the 80 is most excellent in end grain, especially the neck heel-to-body fitting.

As Mario says, although there are general guidelines that work well for most situations, e.g. 20- 30 degrees, the angle is often adjusted for a particular purpose. Maybe a visit to Lie-Nielsen's website would be helpful: http://www.lie-nielsen.com/pdf/Sharpening.pdf
