It is blowing hard and raining sheets right now. The growing lake in our wagon says we have already had 2-3" today, another 3-4" are expected tonight, plus up to 2" tomorrow. Flooding will be the biggest problem around here. We thankfully live at the top of a hill, but there are many low water bridges to cross to get anywhere. The power has been flickering, but, knock on wood, so far it has stayed on. I expect we will lose power and internet at some point. I just hope the folks up north don't get snow and/or ice in the mix, or things could get ugly fast.

I just checked, and they are only expecting an inch or two up where Deb lives.

Yep, good luck fellow mid-atlantic and northeasterners. The gusts here are starting to shake the house a little, but the wind is gonna be the least of our worries here on Long Island. Even though Sandy's 'only' a Cat 1, we're in her NE quadrant and that storm surge (concurrent with a full moon) could be nasty. Shoulda stayed in Woodstock.

So far, we've only seen 2+" of rain and 40 mph winds here in Fredericksburg, VA. The prediction is for more of both. How was Woodstock? I couldn't go this year. There were already other things on the schedule when the date was changed.

It seems to be over here in Fredericksburg, VA. No local damage that I'm aware of. I expect I'll be paddling whitewater by the end of the week after the rivers go down a bit. We needed the water.

I just saw a summary of the damage and lives lost in New York. Wow! I'm sorry I was so insensitive this morning. It appears that many had a bad, bad night up there. What happened here was much less than was forecast.

New York got it much worse than we did. We "only" got 6-7" of rain, but the real problem was the wind. 60 MPH gusts brought down branches, limbs, and entire trees all over the place. It nearly blew the doors off my barn, which I had to venture out in the driving maelstrom yesterday to McGyver to get it through the night. Those doors held, but the smaller set on the hay loft were nearly blow off overnight. The worst problem now is no power, which means no water (we're all on wells) and no heat. I keep many jugs of water on hand for such situations, but we have large animals and they drink a LOT. And now they are predicting snow tonight!

With no electricity to cook with last night, I ventured out in the storm, only to find that EVERYTHING was closed. No gas, no groceries, no food of any kind. Even Home Depot, that bastion of storm damage repair, was closed, as was the 24-hour McDonalds. Many of the local roads were 6' underwater and other roads were blocked with logs. I stopped to try to move one that went all the way across a major thoroughfare. It had thankfully broken, and I was able to get half of the road cleared, just in time for some complete idiot to come flying over the blind curve at 60+ MPH. If I hadn't just moved that log, he would have been history! Some people will never learn. I am thankful that more people were not injured! Waiting for power is the worst of it around here.

We're just outside of Boston. Power went out around 6:00 monday evening and came back on Thursday morning around 1:00 (AM) (but not after I learned how to hook up a generator). There is so much serious tree damage I'm amazed power was restored so quickly, knock wood.

We get up early and yesterday morning I sat in the pitch black living room playing guitar. It was great.

I'm feeling pretty well protected right now. I grew up in Belle Harbor, down a bit from Breezy Point where the fires were. There is so much sadness, one must stop and be grateful.

We got 10+ inches of rain here on the delmarva. Roads flooded out till yesterday morning. high winds but never lost power. My brother in Western Maryland got over 2 feet of snow and is still waiting on power. It was a fun night.

well, I got my power back on here in Jersey City. I am right on Liberty Harbor and while all the boats that were moored, survived well; any body that was out of the water is now 2 blocks down the road. I couldn't get to my studio in Hoboken for 3 days after Sandy. Water came about 6in from coming in my shop door, still no power there. Everyone I know in Hoboken lost a car.

The tidal surge on the south shore of Long Island was at least 6 -10 feet above mean high tide. I know folks who live in Coney Island and elsewhere along the south shore of LI who who lost their cars, homes, the works. I consider myself quite fortunate to only have suffered w/o electricity for 6 days. Now I know what fubar'd really is.

Many cars were filled up with water, sewage, and diesel oil. yick! People could not move them to safe areas. The building I was going to move into has a garage 2 floors under street level. It was filled, they have wreckers hauling out muck laden cars for days now. My one friend lost 2 brand new work trucks.
