Jumbo 6 string by Patrick Degreve
Here are a few pictures of the Jumbo 6 string that I built for my brother Michael. When I saw him play in Vegas last year, one of the guitars he played was a Taylor Jumbo 12 string. He told me that he loved the Jumbo size and would like to have a 6 string jumbo. This has East Indian Rosewood back and sides, with a Bubinga center panel, with Bloodwood binding. The fretboard is bound with maple, and has abalone fret markers. I have always liked smaller guitars like the OM or L00, but I have to admit this has a wonderful rich bass feel to it. After playing it in, I really am happy with it. I will probably have to build one for me now.

The Rosette is abalone with bloodwood and Rosewood.

Here is a shot of the side showing the bloodwood binding. I think it brings out the red in the Rosewood.

The neck is mahogany, maple, and walnut. The back center panel is Bubinga.

Nicely done. I like three piece backs.

Nice work Patrick,
close up of the head stock? Love the look of the neck and fret board. How deep did you make the body?

I particularly like the juxtaposition of the reverse wedges in the back and headstock. Nicely done!

Thanks for the coments. Mike: here is a shot of the peghead. It is rosewood with a bubinga center panel. The body depth tapers from 3.75 in. at the neck to 4.75 in. at the heel.

Yeah, I really like the look of the 3-piece back and the laminated neck. Great continuity.

I like the bloodwood binding. I used it on Peruvian Walnut B/S Parlor and really liked it - darker sides makes it stand out. Nice work.

Now, Patrick:
I'm not trying to mess with your mind or anything like that. I love these big, voluptuous guitar bodies. I just want to ask you this: You DO realize you can build a beautiful honkin' big arch top out of the same mold....don't you? I sure hope you will do it.
Thats a real nice axe, man! It's a NICE instrument. But nothing does it for me like an archtop, so my thoughts immediately went in that direction. I hope you'll re-purpose your mold for an arch top soon. But whether it's flat tops or arch tops, just keep them coming.
