A mockup that got strings
After watching Manos Hadjidakis(Peacejoytown) play The Dangling Conversation on youtube, I was inspired to build a skeleton guitar. This is a mockup that started with a gift acoustic neck that was headed for the scrap pile. It sounds good to my ear, and looks good hanging on the wall.

Nice!
How is the balance? Is it hard to hold in a playing position?

Good with this neck. Even better hung by a strap. Notice that the neck connects at the 12th fret, and the skeleton guitar weighs only slightly more than my OM size acoustic Larrivee. This is just a prototype that I used to test out some construction details. I started with a general sketch, and worked through the details during construction.Steve Senseney wrote:Nice!

Too cool! If you made the wings removable and provided a "nut elevator", the middle part looks like you could advertise it as a convertible, either lap steel with just the middle core and raising the strings or a skeleton electric with the wings added. Either way, I like your color choices that gives it a retro vibe. Neato, daddyo!

Very cool; Has a Danelectro vibe in the best way. How are the wings attached to the body?

The top part (non cut away) is inlet into a mortise in the body. The solid cut away is attracted with two screws. and the bottom bout is a single screw through the strap button.Ben Caracello wrote: How are the wings attached to the body?

Brad, I have a neck from a destroyed Yamaha acoustic lying around. You just gave me a great idea for it. Thanks!
