Woa! That's heavy! Those dark streaks are the lightning on which the player shall ride!

Nice build. Which scale? Short as done by Gibson?

Thanks for the welcome; i am indeed new and intend to use this forum occasionally when it comes to sharing info or seeking help in special questions which might be of broader interest - respecting the high level i see here. Most of my build threads are communicated in two german forums.

Hi thar!Beate Ritzert wrote:Nice build. Which scale? Short as done by Gibson?
Thanks to all!
No it is a 34" scale. I is based heavily though on a Burny 4 string bass I have which is a copy of the early 80's V bass [but built a lot better then the Gibson one] which is a 30" scale. It took a bit of design work to get it in similar proportions with the longer scale that way it wouldn't get cartoonishly big

Re: Five String Flying V bass
And how do You deal with the neck heaviness of the V?
I am still fiddling around a bit with the strap pin positions of my Vs (guitar and bass, both semi-hollow).

Re: Five String Flying V bass
I always move the strap button to be from 3" to 6" from center of V on bass side depending on the neck weight. This bass is on the heavy side as it is so it balances alright, basically the same a fender bass with heavy tuners..
You might want to go headless if you want perfect balance.. or do a upside down ML shape...

Welcome Beate
Very nice job on that V - I love the headstock which sort of reminds me of the Jackson Roswell guitar - which Ive always liked... for pure alien cool factor!
Please keep us posted on your builds
Cheers

Re: Five String Flying V bass
Thanks! The head shape is pretty much the gibson shape though.. just the bottom is wider.
I guess could dig though some picts of old builds that I never really posted... I'm not really building anything ATM... kind'a buried with parts projects

But that was not my build, it was Aaron's.charlie wood wrote: Very nice job on that V - I love the headstock which sort of reminds me of the Jackson Roswell guitar - which Ive always liked... for pure alien cool factor!
Mine is a very different concept going away from Gibson's shape.
