Yes, it matters. As I said above I built a guitar with wood from "the tree". Aside from its beauty I was amazed at the density and hardness of the wood. The guitar had a depth of sound much greater than any mahogany, quilted or otherwise, I've worked with in the past.

I just talked to Martin. They use 3M Scotchweld PR 600. It's a plastic/rubber instant adhesive cyanoacrylate.

I stand corrected. After reexamining the finish I believe it is lacquer. I thought I had touched it with acetone, but realized I hadn't. I was basing my assumption on the way it reacted to the alcohol. I lightly touched an inconspicuous spot with acetone and it softened. So my apologies Mark.

You're correct Mark, it is a red label FG-110, but the finish is not lacquer. It's poly. Acetone doesn't phase it. I work with nitro cellulose lacquer everyday.
