Re: We're Still Using Wood
OMG - you guys are all still here. I've not checked in for LONG ass time. Nice koa guitar Randy. As you guys have pointed out, wood quality and availability has changed a LOT since I started this habit in 1999. Thankfully i pack-rat faster than i build so I still have some really nice wood stashed a...

Thanks so much for including me in the trial run. Mark!! Long time no talk my frien...

Re: Glue for colored veneer marquetry in spruce top
thanks Barry - but I'm over it. I need to crack-on. If the client is un-happy, I'll give them a discount. I actually have another commission on the heels of this, so ... crack-on.

Re: Glue for colored veneer marquetry in spruce top
Alan, you know I love ya buddy, but I do wish you were not late to this party. :-) I had some bleed - even through a shellac seal - which must have been too thin and wet at this point. I did not expect the epoxy to cary the dye. Like I said, I did the inlay soon after sealing, so i think this flower...

Re: Glue for colored veneer marquetry in spruce top
Hey Barry, the T-88 will cure with an amber tint, and I'm good with that for this application. Its about the color of most hide glue.

Re: Glue for colored veneer marquetry in spruce top
I finally got everything together and fit. Been a lot of distractions since I started... Oye! The second picture is the complete inlay, all installed and the epoxy is setting as I type. I test fit everything before sealing, then again after and had to fix a few too-tight pieces. Once the epoxy was i...

Re: Rosewood / redwood acoustic
Beautiful!
Is the top arched more than a usual flat-top (1/8"-ish dome)? From the reflections it looks that it might be more. Or is it the curl and shadows?

Re: Another Gibson/Kasha encounter in less than a year?
That is super cool! I'd guess that the sticker is indicating some variation that this specific test instrument represented. They were probably moving braces around or something to get it "right" for production and this one is the "Top .6 YMT" version. I want to know how your cust...

Thanks for the offer Barry, but I'm not ready to go on that yet. Need to go back to the Luddite shop to finish this build.

Re: Glue for colored veneer marquetry in spruce top
See now, I saw the text and read "circuit" CNC - I thought it was a machine for printed circuit boards. Got it now, that is cute. It would make a clean edge, but it would not work on my 1mm thick veneer. I discussed CNC routing the cavities with people at work, and that is definitely the w...

Re: Glue for colored veneer marquetry in spruce top
Hey Guys, I'm back from the weekend. Ok, some specifics. Buckle-up-buttercup - here we go into TLA soup... My daughter drew the original image on paper with pen - she is the art-eest. I took that image and scanned it to a digital format (PNG), and imported that into CAD so that it was 1:1 in the dra...

Re: Glue for colored veneer marquetry in spruce top
OK - now i'm just trolling for compliments. Thanks guys - you are too kind. Randy, this guitar is for a young lady in the Bay Area who commissioned it - how _dare_ you imply that i only make guitars for family and friends!! OK her father-in-law was my best friend in middle school :-) The design (dra...

I may get some of those spores - they are available on Amazon ![Smile :-)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
As you can see from my image, things are going reasonably well. I have all the leaves & buds fit. 3 more flowers to go.

Wow! I would say that he knows what he is doing.
I'm definitely a rank amateur relative to that.
thanks for asking him, i will definitely consider that - i'll have to do a glue-off test

Re: Glue for colored veneer marquetry in spruce top
Hey guys, thanks for all the advise, but the train has left the barn, the cow has sailed, and the barn door is flappin' in the breeze. :-) I'll share the finished product some time soon, but suffice it to say that all the cutting, cussing, and consternation has come to a crescendo, and I'm near read...

Re: Replacing bandsaw tires on Delta 14".
I replaced my Grizzly 17" tires a couple years ago with Sulphur Grove orange urethane tires, and DANG that was hard to do!
My experience was virtually identical to yours, I would only need to find-replace brands in your text and it would be spot-on.

Hey Marshall, I don't think I'll be doing that here. Sounds like a shellac stick type fix to me.

Re: Glue for colored veneer marquetry in spruce top
Marshall - i agree - there is no way to fill spruce.
My only defense is to cut the cavity as clean as possible, and to fill any bo-bo-s with wood (so far only one bo-bo)
