Re: Bowed Psaltery Kit
Update, I've played this for a while now. I gave up on the bows that came with it, a regular violin bow sounds much better. I played it in church the first time this past Sunday and got lots of compliments on it!

Re: Bowed Psaltery Kit
Thanks! Not yet, I'm still tuning it, it's going to take a while, you have to go really slowly.
That tri-knot came with the kit, they gave me a choice of about a dozen designs.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for next time.Barry Daniels wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 10:54 am If you used Original Titebond you can wipe the dried glue away with a rag dampened with warm water. Take it slow and keep wiping. It may take several minutes depending on how thick the glue is.

Can you press your fingers on the strings to get different notes?

Re: Did someone else already invent this?
Are you going to experiment with putting wolf tone eliminators on the offending strings?

Re: Did someone else already invent this?
A few weeks ago, I was trying to envision such an instrument to be played with a straight bow. This is amazing. Maybe you can post a video of it sometime, I'd love to see and hear it being played.

Yes, mine are the Pfeil gouges, nothing straight about them.

Re: Kalimba with uke resonator
I've finished painting this and finally got it strung up. I'm happy to report that it sounds much better with the strings on it!

Re: Bowed Psaltery Kit
Oh, I watched several videos on how to sharpen my carving tools, but I only made them worse. It's probably my spatial dyslexia that messed me up. I'm sure I got mixed up when they said, do it this direction, and I went the opposite way.

Re: Bowed Psaltery Kit
I don't know what happened to my last post where I said that I returned the scraper and sanded it down to remove the glue. My pyrography faded, but was still there enough I can just fill it in again. I didn't want to have to worry about sharpening the scraper, I'm no good at that, I have an entire s...

That's a fabulous idea! I just ordered the scraper, and I'll give it a try. Thanks so much!Jarno Verhoeven wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 4:29 pm Maybe use a card scraper and scrape the glue away locally and stain that area? Don't give up yet!

Re: Bowed Psaltery Kit
I'm so disappointed in myself. I didn't get all the glue sanded off of the sides, so the stain isn't taking in those spots. I'll have to wait for the stain to cure and try to resand it. I hope all my pyrography doesn't get ruined, but I guess I can go over it if I have to.

Re: Bowed Psaltery Kit
Oh, I ordered more stencils, because I want a trinity knot design on my bows.
Today, with hubby's help holding the psaltery, I painstakingly drilled all the holes. Then I glued on the rosette. Tomorrow I'll stain it.

Re: Bowed Psaltery Kit
My process was to tape the stencil down, pencil in the design, move the stencil and repeat until it was all penciled in. Then I used to tool with the small ball tip to burn in the pencil marks, in back and forth lines. Then using the same tip, but in very tiny circle movements, I shaded it all in. T...

This Colwood model comes with about 8 different tips. The dial adjust how much heat you use.
