Re: Spreadsheets and "Contemporary Acoustic Guitar"
I just found this due to my new found interest in falcate bracing. I copied your sheets and will be happy to let you know if I find any issues. I am thinking about using this bracing idea on a fairly small guitar and will definitely share with you what I come up with if if decide to go that way.

Re: Pelham Blue for waterbourne
Andrew, I'm sure it's way too late but I missed this question. I used the Createx with a little of their thinner, not mixed with the finish.

Re: Advice Requested for Bolt-On Neck Order of Operations
I like both of these ideas and may reconsider the inset heel idea. Thanks for sending the suggestions. Routing after assembly does seem like it's probably the smarter way to do this.

Advice Requested for Bolt-On Neck Order of Operations
I am planning to build a couple guitars using a neck joint inspired by Taylor's current approach where the heel is set fully into a mortise and there is a fingerboard extension of the neck shaft that is bolted through the top into a shelp on the neck block. The heel will be more of a Gibson look fro...

Wicked Colors W364 Metallic Blue Silver might be kind of close. I've used these paints with good results under waterborne clear coats.

I'm not Mark, but I have moved over to using Crystalac Brite Tone and really like it.

Re: Acoustic-Electric 12-String
Regarding the finish, the original plan was to stain the mahogany black and fill the grain with red--this led to all sorts of problems. For whatever reason, the deeper grain in this wood was sort of patchy so there ended up being some areas that just didn't have much to fill and it made the whole th...

Acoustic-Electric 12-String
So this was an interesting guitar that was built to order. It's a fairly different design than I tend to go for, but it was really fun to do the inlay and really hell to get the glossy black finish to come out to my satisfaction. Anyway, the details... It's a mahogany top braced similarly to Taylor'...

New Baritone Build Completed
Here's a 28 5/8" scale baritone version of my Haggerty model. It's a poplar body with torrefied maple neck and Richlite fretboard, EP Custom Pickups hand-wired JM-style pickups, and most importantly was hand-painted by my daughter. https://i.imgur.com/iTNEcwo.jpg https://i.imgur.com/IP0SUjO.jpg...

Re: choosing a hardtail bridge for 28.625 baritone build
So how did it turn out? I'm a few weeks from assembly on a similar guitar with the same scale. My plan was just to use the standard Wilkinson short Tele bridge and flip the center saddle over and re-file the ramps for intonating with a wound G. I'd be interested in hearing what your experience was s...

Re: New Build for Myself
The ship lap for the whole thing was probably 60 bucks and most everything is hung on 1/4 dowel pegs or brackets made out of scrap odds and ends.

Re: New Build for Myself
As someone who has spent countless hours/days/weeks of his life looking for that tool "I was just using," it's amazing how much better I've been about putting things away because they all have a defined place and they're still easily at hand. Here's a look at the whole thing... https://i.i...

Re: Ideas Wanted for Cross-Notching Aluminum Rod
Thanks all for the tooling ideas. I have three feet of aluminum rod to get 4-5 ~2" pieces out of so I may try a couple options and see what works the best. Karl, it's for a post that will go through the top into a relatively large end block to serve as the anchor or hook of sorts for the tailpi...

Re: Ideas Wanted for Cross-Notching Aluminum Rod
Perpendicularity to the rod axis is pretty important, but exact with and depth of the slot is much less critical--it's basically going to function as a hook for something 3/16" thick. This is a one per instrument deal and my output is not likely to get over a few at a time. Your chainsaw file i...

Ideas Wanted for Cross-Notching Aluminum Rod
I am trying to make a small part that is 3/4" aluminum rod with a semi-circular notch with 1/8" radius cut perpendicular to the axis of the rod. So essentially a 1/4" hole off set so that the center is tangent to the circumference of the rod. Being a woodworker without access to a mil...

New Build for Myself
So, I wanted a single guitar that would cover most of what I would want individually from a T and an S guitar. The result was this thinline with an ash body and maple neck and T-style bridge and pickup with S-style neck and middle pickups. The switching is a bit goofy with the 3-way toggle allowing ...

Re: Top Mounted Tailpiece
Peter, that's a great instrument! That #8 or so wood screw was strong enough in shear to support the shear load from the strings? I'm definitely over-thinking this. I was thinking that if it was to float on a pin or screw or whatever there should probably be a groove of some sort to let the tailpiec...

Re: Top Mounted Tailpiece
I am also inclined to think that it should float. In some examples of this sort of attachment it looks like it's just held on by a bolt or screw and I'm trying to figure out how it could be as simple looking as that but with the ability to float. I'm probably over-thinking the whole situation, but w...
