Piano adoption site
pianoadoption.com is a site that lists pianos available for free. I have been perusing some of the piano forums on the internet. If you are looking for a start in piano rebuilding, or want to just have one to take completely apart just to explore a piano, they are all over the United States for free...

Re: What bit to use for boring?
I imagine the evolution of drilling tools starting with a metal rod which you flatten with a hammer on the end. Then you grind (or hammer) it into a pointed tool leaving part of the width wider than the shaft it started with. Sharpen the leading edge and you have produced an awl or drilling type of ...

Re: What bit to use for boring?
http://www.bladesmithsforum.com/index.php?showtopic=10290 Sorry! I am away from my shop for a few days. I did take a steel rod, flattened the end some, made the flat into a rounded shape, curved the nose of the tool, and ground the outside into a rounded contour. Then I sharpened the leading edge of...

Online pitch recognition and rhythm test
As I was looking for a online tuner, I ran into this site:
Tonometric.com
It has a pitch discrimination test and a rhythm discrimination test.
Somewhat interesting and curious.

Re: Steinway Upright rebuild
I watched your video. I understand that the cost of a set of strings would be a concern. Regarding tuning-- Your Korg tuner works fine. I down loaded a program for my phone (I have a Samsung Galaxy 3 but it is available for I-phones and other phones and computers) called "Tunelab Piano Tuner&qu...

Re: Steinway Upright rebuild
From a chemist standpoint, the material soaks into the pores and fibers of the wood, and cannot be removed. It is a permanent change. From a wood working viewpoint, it is supposed to "tighten" the pin. If you drill a hole in wood (or plywood) and then the wood becomes more humid it swells....

Steinway Upright rebuild
This is somewhat verbose and lengthy. If you read through the Piano Tools posted in the tools section, you will probably note some concepts repeated. I will present my ideas of the steps to go through with a piano. Later I will specifically give the issues I dealt with as I rebuilt a Steinway uprigh...

Re: Piano tools
The string winder is one of the tools I don't own. I suppose I would like it, but I don't have experience with it. If you have it, use it. I managed to get by without it, but my coils are not as pretty as they could have been. The Pinblock Jack is only for doing grand pianos (as I understand it). Re...
