Re: "Bella"

Thanks so much, guys. I really appreciate the feedback. I wanted to pick up enough design elements to be recognizable without being too literal. If it ended up looking like a cutout of a car with a neck stuck on it, it definitely would have been in the "hokey" realm. I almost didn't do the...

"Bella"

This one was inspired by the 1956 Chevy Bel Air. It was my first attempt at a paint job. It has a solid poplar body with polished aluminum trim, ebony neck and maple fretboard, G&L bridge, Gohtoh tuners and Dimarzio Air Classic humbuckers.

Reached a crossroad, opinions welcome

After building 5 electric guitars, I am at a decision point; stop building or find something to do with the guitars besides hanging them in my man-cave. I enjoy building things and I find guitars to be particularly good projects; complex enough to be challenging, beautiful to look at, functional, no...

Re: "Roots" the Tele

Yes, you are correct. I did briefly ponder the idea of inlaying actual tree roots (not of wenge, but some local species), but decided that would actually be harder than carving faux ones out of a solid piece.

"Roots" the Tele

Went for a more organic feel this time around. It is a traditional telecaster shape, though semi-hollow, with a walnut body, spalted maple top "overgrown" with partially inlaid wenge roots. The bolt on neck is curly maple with a zircote fretboard, inlaid with a walnut vine and padauk leave...

Re: I'm back with guitar #3

Thanks, guys. Barry, the ribs are 3/8" diameter aluminum half round I bought from McMaster Carr. I ground the ends into a rounded shape and polished them. Stainless steel would be better, but I haven't got the tools for that.

My second build, my own design

My daughter asked me to build her a guitar and gave me a wish list of features. I ended up creating my own design, though much of it was strat based. It has a spalted maple semi-hollow body, carved out from the back, with a mahogany back panel, maple neck and ebony fretboard. I used lipstick pickups...

Re: Newbie build

Thanks to all who commented. Yes, Brian, you were right, there was a next one. I'm not great at documenting things, so I finished it without posting any progress pics. I will open a separate thread to post some pics of the final product later today

Re: Newbie build

Thanks, guys. Yes, the build was very enjoyable. I'm finding learning to play much more frustrating, tbh

Newbie build

New to the forum and new to guitar building. Just finished my first guitar. Not sure if there will be others. I had 'build a guitar' on my bucket list for a long time and I thoroughly enjoyed the process. My next task is to learn how to play it, lol. Anyway, it is an approximation of a Gibson CS-356...
