My first build in 2002 was a stewmac d28. It went together well (only 500 hours!) but one mistake that i made that is showing up only now - is that I did not clamp the little side re-inforcement pieces that go between the kerfing on the inside at 4" (or so) intervals. Not having the right clamp...

Hi, thanks for the replies... (hey Mark! - hope to see you at the next GAL) I'm doing les paul style fret boards where I file the frets even with the edge of the board before binding. That makes scraping tough, but I hit it (along with the binding) with 100 grit (no solvent) I've used duco on severa...

re-occuring glue-up nightmare
I'm building guitars that use cocobolo fretboards and I'm binding them with plastic ivroid binding (.040"). I keep notes on most stuff I do in my shop, but in this case, its not helping. No matter what kind of glue I use (yellow, white, fish, ca, model glue, the binding glue from LMI, others......

lacquer over poly?
Hi, I want to sunburst a Hamer Echotone from Korea (2003?) and I suspect that the very shiny finish is some sort of poly. I'm considering roughing it up a bit with 320 grit and then spraying lacquer. Does that sound like it will work or do I need to get the existing finish off of it?
