Re: A Different Way of Steam Bending
Steam1 - Copy.JPG[/attachment]Thank you, What I meant about condensate was that as the steam cools, moisture forms and goes somewhere (as I'm sure you know) so you may end up with a puddle below the jig. Maybe a little tray below or by setting the whole assembly in a shallow baking pan to catch the...

Re: A Different Way of Steam Bending
Is the inside/outside mold in the fifth picture a drying/cooling press? All of the forms need to be exact versions of each other, I imagine. Yes, it seems to need to be clamped overnight for best results. The outside form is essentially half of a building form. In hindsight I would have just built ...

Re: A Different Way of Steam Bending
Well, that is an innovative way to do this and it saves on having different jigs and steam boxes. My only two thoughts would be: 1. I might use multiple rows (say 3) of steam outlets to provide steam across the entire side as opposed to just centered, and 2. What would be the best material to make ...

Oak and Cedar Concert Ukulele
This is my fifth ukulele. 5 completed this year. https://longfellowguitaranduke.wordpress.com/2019/12/12/76/ Oak back, sides, and neck, White Cedar (Thuja occidentalis) top. Granadillo fingerboard and bridge. This has an X braced top, and solid linings. I'd have to say this uke is the best sounding ...

Re: Old Member Quit Building for 1.5 Decade Becomes Ukulele Builder
Nice build. What are the woods? The fretboard and bridge wood, especially, are quite a unique looking wood. Thanks. Top is Western Red Cedar. Bridge and fretboard is Wenge. My Wenge has yellow flecks in it. Sides and back and Honduran Mahogany and neck (I believe) is African Mahohany. Binding and h...

Re: Old Member Quit Building for 1.5 Decade Becomes Ukulele Builder
The forum software was confused because the links did not point at actual images. I changed the OP's image links to URLs, and the links now work, but be forewarned it will not show you the images unless you are logged into Google's services. It would be better to attach the actual photos here inste...

Re: Old Member Quit Building for 1.5 Decade Becomes Ukulele Builder
My photos are on Google Photos. I'm not sure how to add/insert them correctly so that everyone can see. Anyone have some tips? Or do I have to host them somewhere else?
I'll try this way, though. Click link to see album.

Re: Osage Orange slab- yes, no?
I've been on sawmill creek, where a guy has offered a 1"x25" x65" slab of osage orange for part of the cost of milling ($80). Do you think it'd be a good idea to get it? In terms of resawing, I was thinking of dropping by a local luthier supply house for the resawing...or going to a ...
