Re: Dec 2021; How is everyone doing?
It's great to see you all here too. We got absolutely hammered in that storm, we have had over 67" of snow here in Grand Rapids, it's the 2nd snowiest city right behind Buffalo, NY. it's melting now. I am keeping quite busy, I am a partner in a repair shop here these days as well as playing qui...

Re: June 2020- How/What is everyone doing?
Hello friends, I thought I would jump in and spark things up in this discussion... most of the posts are from the summertime! I hope you are having a good winter! I probably had COVID in December, but I am over it now. My doctor told me to just stay home and don't even worry about a test unless I go...

Re: Dead Pre-amp?
If it is a pickup system with a mic AND a piezo, and the mic is working, I'd suggest that the problem is the piezo pickup itself, or maybe it is disconnected from the preamp or the wire broke. If the mic output works but the piezo does not it's probably not the preamp. Could still be, but probably n...

Traynor amps are built very well, good amps. No need to rebuild the cabinet! Just clean it up, and the spray coating is a great idea.

Re: Repair of 1968 Gibson J-45
That is truly a mess under there! The bridge doesn't look like it ever had a different footprint, as far as I can see! but, the old adjustable bridges were sometimes made of plastic and they were bolted to the top with no glue, and so maybe that is what the original one was... when the new one went ...

Re: Repair of 1968 Gibson J-45
That's very good work Barry! Nice. I am not so sure about it being a 1968, it may be newer, but it is a Norlin era Gibson. Those are the ones with the double X-brace and the huge bridge plate. Have you considered doing anything with that? Since you have to fix the binding, you might be able to pull ...

Those don't look like the original tuners to me. The original guitar probably had three on a strip Klusons.

I think you'll be fine with those dimensions. The redwood does need to be a bit thicker.
Sorry that I missed the last convention! At the previous two, I was the musician who got to play for the listening session, and I missed doing it again last time.

Re: Looking for tips on dying a mahogany neck
I haven't done it. I haven't found a need to die a mahogany neck, but if I did I think I'd just use some dark shellac base coats.
