Re: Truss rod slots: curved vs. straight
Thanks I guess it's hard to understand how a rod curved foward will bend back when tightened and a rod curved back will also bend back. I allways thought the forward curved rod put pressure on the curved filet when tightened forcing the neck to bend back. I have also allways wondered if when using a...

Steven wilson latest bass
It's been a while since I've posted any thing here, but I still check in and read a lot. This is the latest bass I've finished and wanted some input. I'm not sure about the head stock but the stings travel pretty straight over the nut. The body shape mimics a Rick and that's what the player wanted, n...

Re: Carl Thompson neck crack
Thanks guys It does seem that a previous repair was done to the scarf joint. And it does feel like putty in there. It was in for an electrical repair so I may go with the "Keep an eye on it" solution. The owner has played it for a long time like this and didn't think it was a problem. I tr...

Carl Thompson neck crack
Hello all Looking for some expert advice once again. I've got a Carl Thompson bass in with a neck crack right around the skarf joint. At first I thought it was glue creep but it's a three peice neck and the crack is right in the middle of the center piece. It seems to be right where the truss rod is...

Re: Customers in your shop
In my day job working electronics I often work better under the stress of prying eyes (inspecters-clients-coworkers). But in the wood working shop, I think of how many shop teachers I've had missing fingers. Unless someone is there helping me, I don't like them there.

Re: The "Reclaimed Materials" Challenge- discuss rules here
I'd like to enter this but only if I can make it work with my goal to donate an instrument to a fundraiser. I work in cancer research and we have ongoing fundraising efforts to support a fund we have to help our patients make ends meet (in the event that the cancer/cancer treatments have taken away ...

So It's ON!!Jim McConkey wrote:>but what about electronics?
In one of the previous challenges I repurposed a couple mini-potentiometers from dead halogen lamp dimmers, and others have reused parts from radios and wound pickups from photocopier parts. Think outside the box!

Re: The "Reclaimed Materials" Challenge- discuss rules here
Good idea, I will try to do this one. I understand the spirit of the challenge is to "take a table/crate and turn it into a guitar" ,but what about electronics? I don't plan on taking a toaster and making a pre-amp but maybe a operator's head set and using it as a internal mike. Does that ...

Re: Cheap non-fuctional tuners
Thanks for the replies. I'm not a whole seller so ebay is really my only option on cheap tuners. I've never really trusted that and all the ones I've found don't have enough quantity. I like the dowel idea and might try that. In the mean time here is what I've come with. The economy tuners from stew...

My neighbor did make bar stools out of reject bodies from his son's guitar factory. That's pretty cool.

Thanks Adam I did the same thing and couldn't find any that I could get 24+ reliably and was hoping to get them less then $6. They are just decoration so I don't know how much extra I can charge. Cheap non-fuctional tuners
Hello- I am coming to this well of great knowledge for some ideas. While the market is soft for Hand Made Custom guitars right now, I was approched by a new guitar themed bar in Reno to make menu holders shaped like head stocks. "Sure, I can make that." They want them to look much like rea...
