Many thanks for leading me to the threads. I shall have to try ways of dealing with it, although it does take a long time to re-form when removed. It does look crystaline, and fits in with the second 2009 thread. I suppose the real worry is whether it is harmful in some way.

I have some cordia rosewood, also known as Gamboge, which I bought for woodwinds. When the rec order joints are left for some time a grey powder develops on the surface and especially on the bore. I am not sure if it is a reaction to the linseed oil used, or quite what it is. Any observations would ...

introduce myself

I made recorders from 1978 to about 1998, and am only just returning to instrument making. Originally I was apprenticed as a toolmaker, but left this to study music; making instruments seemed the obvious thing to do.
I am struggling somewhat with using social media!
