Re: SG Standard build: 61/62 reissue style

Amazing finish job. I always loved the shape on an SG. At the risk of wandering into serious NOOB territory, would you mind giving us a rundown of your finish process, sealers used, number of coats of laquer, techniques and materials to flat it and buff out? Whatever you are doing obviously works, ...

Re: SG Standard build: 61/62 reissue style

Thanks to all for the kind comments. I am very happy about how this guitar turned out in all respects. It sounds good and plays very well. As always, I know where all the mistakes are, and there is only one that bothers me at all. :)

SG Standard build: 61/62 reissue style

I just finish building an SG styled guitar. This is much like the Firebird I built in that I keep buying SGs but never hang on to them. I figure if I build it, I'll keep it. That's worked so far with the Firebird... This guitar is styled after the 61/62 SG standard reissues out there with the major ...

Re: Mistakes made while building early guitars

The biggest mistake I made on my first build was actually completing it. That led to wanting to build a second and then a third and so on. If I had never completed the first one I might have the money I spent on acquiring a shop full of tools and equipment, a stockpile of various tonewoods, and a ho...

Re: Robert Follett's Firebird V

Very nice! I looked all over for those tuners and couldn't find them. I wound up using those horrible Steinberg tuners on my Firebird build (I like yours better, by the way). Can you post a link to the tuner source? There was a guy selling the tuners on Ebay probably like 5 years ago. I snagged a s...

Robert Follett's Firebird V

I have owned several Firebirds throughout the years but always ended up selling them. I got to the point where I wanted one again but they are just more money than I'm willing to pay now, even for the reissues. So of course I had no choice except to build one. The construction is similar to the Gibs...
