Re: Canadian Geese
This is the first time I have ever heard anyone call them "tasty!" lol! The hunters I know in Montana turn them into jerky for their dogs.

Re: Thoughts on Arch Top Bass Guitar
Nevermind... These are just creative, naive, and idealistic novice luthier thoughts. I went to investigate and compare stereos that would work and then thought of all sorts of troubles like feedback and how to connect it all together. I did, however, discover a little gem called Acoustic Stream, a d...

Re: Thoughts on Arch Top Bass Guitar
I have been mulling this over, and it may have left the realm of archtops and entering the world of electronics Would putting one of these newer battery powered hi-fi systems (i.e. the pill, some bose units, iLoud, etc) inside the instrument be feasible as opposed to t-amp, power source, and driver?...

Re: Thoughts on Arch Top Bass Guitar
I will cut to the chase... I have a neck through electric bass under construction for the last 12 years. I realized that it is still under construction forever because I don't WANT a solid body instrumfent anymore. I am trying to figure out something to do with the neck... it is a beautiful neck, pe...

Re: Who cuts and cures their own wood?
David, I almost forgot... no it is not an olive. It is one of the meanest scariest looking trees you ever saw, but the wood looks very similar to olive, quite pretty. I won't rewrite the whole wood-database.com article on Russian Olive, but I will tell you it is harder than maple. They are worthless...

Re: Who cuts and cures their own wood?
Wow! What a wealth of information! If I may distill this and ask a few questions... Split ' lengths of trunk/tree into several wedges by halving a number of times. Seal ends with paint. Stack it up to dry where it is in the elements but sheltered from precipitation. Cut boards and work with the wood...

Who cuts and cures their own wood?
I have some ideas for Russian Olive and I have access to tons of it, some nice specimens, real potential. Some questions on cutting and curing my own wood. I noticed on many online retailers of tonewood the hard wood back and sides sets for guitars, etc. look like they were cut diagonal out of the c...

Re: Thoughts on Arch Top Bass Guitar
Some fresh thoughts... sound=energy so tighter string=more stored energy=more volume? also... longer scale length would mean a tighter string. physical volume=sound volume so make the body as large as possible without being uncomfortable and it will be as loud as possible now about a bridge... what ...

Re: Thoughts on Arch Top Bass Guitar
So we have to figure out how to defy physics and get this done!!! I will do more research, just because it hasn't been done yet, doesn't mean it can't ever be done!

Thoughts on Arch Top Bass Guitar
I found this good looking little instrument at http://www.sonntag-guitars.com/english/Archtops/Archtop-Acoustic-Bass.php it has given me some ideas that I thought I would run by all the gifted and experienced builders here. First off, would a more drastic arched top allow for a slightly thinner more...
