It sounds great acoustically, and amplified, and it's a joy to play! I couldn't be happier with it. I need to the new owner if she can upload a video of it being played.Karl Wicklund wrote:Curiosity is as good a reason as any and a better reason than many. How did it turn out, as far as sound and playability ?

Re: Tenor ukulele from reclaimed lumber
Why did you not build it with thin bent sides? Mostly just curiosity. That's about it. I have a bunch of short lengths of nice lumber that I want to find a use for. I wanted to know what an instrument built this way would sound like, and how heavy it would make it. I was kind of inspired by some ol...

Re: Tenor ukulele from reclaimed lumber
This is a construction method I was curious about trying, and the ukulele was kind of a proof of concept for an acoustic/electric baritone guitar I'm working on.

Tenor ukulele from reclaimed lumber
It's been a long time since I've posted anything here, but I'd like to share this ukulele I just finished for my good friends' daughter. It's a 17 inch scale Tenor ukulele with an old growth redwood top, poplar sides, back, and neck, and a bubinga fingerboard. The redwood was from an old I found bur...

Re: Finally finished semi hollow, set-thru neck long scale bass!
Thanks! I was going for the unholy love child of Carl Thompson, BC Rich, and Alembic. I spent a long time making sure the bass was comfortable to play while sitting or standing, and that the balance was as neutral as possible. I'd be honored for Murderface to play it. Haha.

Finally finished semi hollow, set-thru neck long scale bass!
I started this project roughly 15 years ago, and it kept getting put on the back burner while I worked on other things. The bass is a 36 inch scale, tuned B-E-A-D Passive classic Jazz pickups with pickup covers made from scrap from the body, and a piezo pickup under the bridge. The knobs are Magneto...

Re: New semi acoustic violin completed
I got some good feedback from a couple of violinists that I'll be integrating into the design. I'll post pictures as soon as the changes are made! I need to relocate the tuning pegs a bit, thin the neck down, put more of a pronounced radius on the fingerboard, and lighten the body a bit. The weight ...

New semi acoustic violin completed
It's been years since my last post here, and I finally got back into instrument building now that my kids are old enough to appreciate instruments of their own. This is a semi-hollow electric violin I built for my son. It's a neck-through 4/4 scale violin. The neck and body back are mahogany, the fa...
