Re: high neck relief in an old Regal Parlor guitar
Thanks for the replies! I had already decided against a compression refret. Given that the neck likely does not have a truss rod, a compression refret that looks good now might lead to a back bow in a few years. Also, I'm uncertain that the neck angle is correct even if the fretboard is straight. I'...

high neck relief in an old Regal Parlor guitar
Hiya, I picked up a 1930's Regal parlor guitar on Craigslist for $25 and have been slowly restoring it. I've cleaned it, repaired cracks on the top and back, reglued the braces, and reglued the top and back to the sides so far. The last hindrance to finishing it up is 1/16"+ neck relief. Becaus...

Re: Resawing Corian
Lungs? We don't need to stinkin' lungs.. Yeah, I pretty much always wear protection when I am machining. Yeah. Carbide tipped tools last a lot longer. But like I said, I'd like to avoid the expense of a carbide tipped BS blade. I've been a woodworker all of my adult life and built 6-7 guitars, but I...

Re: Resawing Corian
Great. I'll start with a steel blade and see how it goes. And, yes, I like my fingers just the way they are : )

Re: Resawing Corian
Thanks for the quick reply!
I use Lennox 3/4", 3 hook teeth/inch bimetal blades for resawing wood. Do you think that will be too coarse for the corian?

Resawing Corian
Hiya Hiya,
I need to resaw some 5x8x1/2 corian for some inlays. Is a 1/2 by (reasonably fine toothed) bandsaw blade going to be adequate? Or am I going to have to spring for a carbide tipped blade (Hoping not)? My plan is to get three 1/16" thicknesses from each blank.

Re: Closing the Box and Humidity
HA! I didn't know that cool air holds more humidity than warm air. I thought it was the opposite.
It's not terribly cool in the summer. But I'm going to try a dehumidifier first, before the AC.
I thought it was important to get the relative humidity down to around 10% for instrument making.

Re: Closing the Box and Humidity
Hiya Hiya, I'm facing the same problem, and I'm wondering how things are working out in your shop(s). My shop is in a Pennsylvania basement with sandstone walls. It gets VERY humid in there during the summer---walk in and immediately start sweating humid. There is a window so an AC unit next summer ...
