Re: Pantograph for inlay work
Thanks, Barry! I'm actually looking at pin vises now to use as a stylus for the same reasons - interchangeability of tips. I want mine to be adjustable so I have incorporated a threaded rod but still developing that portion. I have not considered another way of making the templates other than cuttin...

Pantograph for inlay work
Hi Folks - I have only posted here a few times but lurk often (sorry, should participate more). I thought y'all might want to see the pantograph I designed for doing inlay work on guitars. This is for use with my Dremel and flex cable. I did one simple test with it and that worked fine but I'll do s...

Re: Any successful method of jointing backs and tops without power jointer or planes?
If you have a table saw you can also put some sandpaper down on the top and use your fence for a guide to get a good fit on the joint. I've used the strip off a belt sander many times. Once you cut it at the splice it's long enough to do a good job.

Re: Christmas Present
Well, Gordon, that's everything I heard and expected it to be. Thanks for the update and report. I have to build an extension table onto my table saw and will place the unit there when the time comes. I have the Bosch 1617 2.25 HP - I suppose it will fit in this lift but I haven't checked yet. Re: Shop Safety
I made mine out of Walnut I milled to 1/2" and shaped it like a Grand Auditorium with a Florentine cutaway!

Re: Christmas Present
I am looking at the same one to put in my table saw extension (that I've yet to build...). Please follow up with how you like it - looks like a really nice one. Congrats on the score and a supporting wife. I have one equally supporting and it's awesome!

Lots of guitars have removable necks, including Taylor.

Re: New shop! Almost
We had a one ton Gree mini-split installed in October 2013 and it has been fabulous! It's a high SEER unit, 22 if I remember correctly, and it's been on continuously since then. Our electric bill has not changed at all, so that's a good thing. At full capacity it uses less current than my wife's hai...

Looking very good! I'm using our two car garage and it's great having it but I really wish I had a stand alone like you're building. Will it be climate controlled?

Re: How can I enhance walnut figure contrast?
I'll apologize in advance for this not being a guitar, but it's guitar shaped... ;) This is Walnut crotch finished in Nitrocellulose lacquer but the wood was scraped, not sanded. There is no dye or stain. I think the contrast is pretty decent on this although it shows up better in person than these ...

Re: How can I enhance walnut figure contrast?
How about an aniline dye with lacquer sealer/topcoat? I've use that many times on furniture and it always seems to do the trick in making figure pop.
