Re: Converting an existing guitar to just or pure intonation
Yup, you'll need to pick a key and tuning first, and unless each strong is tuned to the same note, you'll need offset frets. Beyond that, the calculations will just have to be whole ratios (plenty of resources online to find natural tuning ratios. This will be a labor of love, and I would advise doi...

Re: Best way to apply a pick guide so as to facilitate future repairs.
Self stick pickguards over finish. Pressure Sensitive Adhesives, transfer adhesives, etc. I've done 3 Martin pickguard replacements under warranty in the last week. Each case they were originally glued down to the wood and finished over, and in each case the plastic shrunk over the decades, pulling ...

Ha! I hadn't looked at it that way, but now that you mention it...David King wrote:Nice CAD spline rendering David.
It's an L-00 model made entirely of old fret wire soldered together.

Re: Brass Fretwire
Sorry I missed this post earlier - if you still need some, I have loads of old brass wire. Not sure about the dimensions, but I know I have a few pounds of it laying around the shop, and can check the size tomorrow. It's so soft I would never use it on clients' guitars, but if it's just for a wall h...

Re: Intonation: How Much Change in Scale Length Per Cent of Pitch Change at 12th?
I also have to admit that I had go back and write the formulas out longhand to be sure it was right. So many different embodiments and effects with nut compensation vs fret location vs saddle compensation, as much as it makes sense in the end, sometimes there are just too many numbers bouncing aroun...

Re: Intonation: How Much Change in Scale Length Per Cent of Pitch Change at 12th?
No, no offense at all. When I was looking through the spreadsheet at the formulas I used, it was hard to decipher because I had to work in all sorts of corrections for the very mistake I'm having to back away with once again. ;) My original versions did indeed prescribe the incorrect .007" corr...

Re: Intonation: How Much Change in Scale Length Per Cent of Pitch Change at 12th?
Thanks Todd. If you re-read, you'll find that I thanked the person there who caught my mistake - guess I've been relying too much on using spreadsheets on my bench computer, and goofed on recalling the formulas I wrote in to it many years ago. It happens, and although I thank you for the nod toward ...

Re: Tacoma Acoustic Bass repairs
I see these fail quite often (especially the older ones), and use both some high-strength magnet clamping systems and a couple of extra long cam clamps I made years back specifically for these instruments.

Re: Wiring Help PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The linear pots (B-marked) are actually used for volume rather than tone. Tone controls will act more like an on/off switch at the bottom end with linear, while volume controls can work fine either with linear or audio depending on the use. For a bass circuit with independent volumes and no switch, ...
