Re: 5th acoustic from a 1960 Wurlitzer piano
Man that looks great. very good use of an old family piano. How is the sound? Thanks Ryan. Sorry for the late reply. It sounds fantastic. I admit, I don’t play much so I can’t put it through its paces like a skilled player. My best friend who has my #2, says it’s my best one yet. I trust him :D

Re: 5th acoustic from a 1960 Wurlitzer piano
Lovely guitar, The piano key fret markers are a nice touch. The spruce looks much nicer than the stuff I see on most old piano soundboards. Thanks Clay. The sharp keys don’t stand out against the ebony. I came up with the idea after the neck was done. I was originally going to do gold MOP. The spru...

Re: 5th acoustic from a 1960 Wurlitzer piano
Very nice! I wish I had thought to do that with my Mom’s 1960 Wurlitzer—the one we learned on as children. It served its purpose, but it ended up a sad and unplayable piano. Thanks Bob. When my mom said the piano had to go away, I told her “don’t do anything until I get there!” When I arrived in to...

5th acoustic from a 1960 Wurlitzer piano
I’ve been away from this forum for a while. My fifth acoustic took me five years to finish. After a shot pin block and cracks in the soundboard, my mom’s 1960 Wurlitzer piano was not even worth giving away. In 2014, I flew back to Chicago to help my mom move and took apart the piano to salvage what ...

Re: Room humidifier
I’ve had Venta Airwashers for years. Super simple, no white dust, no filters. They sell a conditioning liquid, which I’m not sure if it helps, but it does get mineral buildup which I combat with CLR. I live in the West and the Venta can keep my room 30-45% if I keep the door closed. I’ve built all m...

Re: Introducing me and my "old" number 4
Thanks guys. Yes, life has a way of throwing in some curves. Chuck - the shop is alive once again and I'm working towards my next two but other projects get in the way. It's almost as if I'm afraid to start down the guitar-building rabbit hole again... I'll get over that

Re: Making a template
I agree that baltic birch is best. MDF is too soft for templates. I make my first master template out of 1/4" material because I can finesse the shape and easily sand to a perfect profile. I then use that master template to create multiple routing templates. If, down the road, you drop, nick, r...

Introducing me and my "old" number 4
I had to break up with building just over 4 years ago. A move forced my tools into storage. Just before the move, I finished my forth acoustic (and several electrics). I was on this forum previously, but I don't think that I posted it due to my relocation. I took these photos a while ago but for som...

Re: What top for a Ziricote B&S set?
Thanks guys. That will save me some money as I have four sets of aged Sitka from Alaska Specialty Woods that have been aging even more since my move. Just didn't know if I was missing out on another good pairing. Good tip Judd. I was worried about bending Ziricote. I used some as trim on a humidor I...

What top for a Ziricote B&S set?
Hi Everyone. I am back here after a 4-year absence. I started building guitars in Phoenix around 2003 and have built four acoustics and seven electrics. I got laid off in 2009, moved to Utah and am just getting my (garage) shop up and running again. On to my question... I am gearing up to build a ne...
