Re: Single phase, 3 phase power tools in Australia
3 phase machine tools in the used market can be had for much less than the same in single phase. A 3 phase converter may be the way to go. You can build a rotary converter yourself out of a larger 3 phase motor or buy one ready made. This 5 hp should take care of a small wood shop. https://www.south...

Re: Bandsaw thrust bearings
I round over the back of all my blades for what ever reason it seems to work. A little bees wax on the back of the blade helps for a little while to quiet the noise. I keep a lump of bees wax handy in my shop for lots of things. My main use for bees wax is wood screws, no screw gets installed withou...

Rounding over the back of the blade with a course sharpening stone will improve the smoothness of the cut.

They are cheap enough on Amazon 10 should last a lifetime. When they get sticky or noisy replace them.

Re: Motor help
Craftsman is not a very good Radial Arm Saw. I have one from the 60's. The motor burnt out some 30 years ago. I looked into getting it rewound. Slightly less than a replacement motor and more than the poorly built modern whole saws. I went for the rewind, the motor shop assured me it would be better...

Look into Boom Whackers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boomwhacker
I have a set, they can be a lot of fun. Finale has a Boomwhacker staff that prints the notes in color code.

Re: Curly Burr Oak
Quarter sawn red oak is one of my favorites to work with after ash. I haven't built instruments with it yet. Cabinets and furniture is what I make. Many years ago my brother bought a portable band mill. we as amateur sawmill operators milled up anything we could find. When we had a red oak on the mi...

If the back is off. why not scrape 1/8 inch the bottom of the kerf then glue in a backing splice. With the back and top on I got nothing.

Re: Wood Suppliers
Try to locate a small sawmill owner not a commercial large one but a hobby mill. A call to the nearest Wood Miser dealer or some other small mill manufactures could put you on to one. It has been my experance hobby mill operators love to help out other hobbyest. Tell them what you are up to, ask for...

Re: Dust-mageddon!! Dust bag attachment help needed
I don't use the dust bag that came with my delta dust collector. I run the exhaust out the back wall of my shop. I can do that because my nearest neighbor is about a quarter mile away.

Re: Bolt on guys - bolts loosen with dry humidity?
When I built my banjo I used a steel rod in the neck heal drilled and tapped. I left a little clearance for seasonal wood movement.
If I ever build another I would use a piece of square stock brass.

Re: Just for the fun of it - DIY tube amp
Many years ago when I was purging all my tube equipment I sold 2 100 watt Bogen Power amps they were never used. I got them surplus when GE moved out of Epcot. They were spares for low bass rumble in the sound system. They had 4 6L6 power tubes. Pushing 2 6L6 power tubes to 100 watts would result in...

Those things happen.
I serviced and repaired industrial electronics for 39 years. There have been times when pulling the circuit boards and connections one at a time cleaning and reinstalling fixed the issue. A little invisible corrosion can cause lots of issues.

Yes no input.
Also the sniff test. Be sure the capacitors are discharged then stick your nose in the chassis and sniff. Burnt smell not good.

Daryl - thanks! Can you recommend a good online resource for info on building speaker cabinets for guitars? Re: Amp restoration
Daryl - thanks. That's good info. Did you just take the bare cabinet to the shop to have the bedliner sprayed on? I have that liner in my little Ranger. I'm assuming that you mask off the areas to be kept free of the liner material. Definitely sounds a heckuva lot easier than wrapping Tolex around ...
