leveling purfling before installing shell?
I have glued on the binding and purfling. With the teflon strip removed should I scrape the purling flush with the top and bottom before I install the abalone shell?

Gluing bindings
I am bout to glue my binding and purfling which consists of two bands ob bwb with a teflon strip between them for a shell inlay and the binding strip. I have read about using ca glue for this. how does one do this without gluing fingers to the binding? I have also noted when doing trial pieces the i...

Re: Bending Purfling?
These are fiber strips as I mentioned. I will try the hot pipe as I know they won't bend around the tight curves of a cutaway.
Thanks for the responses.

Bending Purfling?
I am planning to use a bwb, shell inlay, bwb purfling. i have the binding pieces bent and am going to use a teflon strip as a spacer for the shell. My question is do I have to pre-bend the bwb fiber strips? I seem to think so because they seem awfully stiff. These aren't individual strips, the bwb f...

Abalone purfling
I used the cutting described by Chris Paulick in his you tube video and it worked quite well for my rosette. Now I am getting to the purfling and he has another video about that. He just uses straight pieces for the whole job. Other videos I have seen use straight pieces as well. Does this really wo...

gluing fiber for bindings
I glued some bwb fiber strips to some maple to use as binding. When Itried to bend the binding what I suspected would happen did happen. The heat released the glue and the bwb fiber strips delaminated. I used regular Titebond. What glue should I use so the heat from the bending iron won't release it?

Re: intonation
How many cents off are any of you willing to live with? And how many cents off before it is noticeable to the ear? I realize everyone has different levels of ,for lack of a better term, precision hearing. Just wondering because some of these tuners say they are accurate to 1/10 of a cent. If the int...

Purfling suggestions
On the guitar I am now buildnig I have a rosette with a bwb, bwb ablam bwb, bwb rings I would like to mirror this somewhat on the face. I am planning to use an ebony binding. I am thinking a bwb ablam bw purfling with this but the thicker ebony binding sort of throws off the symmetry. On the back I ...

Bridge pins and saddles
I've seen bridge pins that are basically square to the long axis of the guitar and some where they are parallel to the saddle slot. Is this just esthetics or are there reasons behind doing it one way versus the other?

Neck damaged in shipping
neck crack high E side.jpg The neck on this guitar was damaged in shipping. Is there anything to do but replace the neck? The only thing I see is that due to the nature of the crack the tension of the strings might keep it from getting any worse. Is this a valid thought or just wishful thinking? Lo...

Saddle question
I just finished sizing the saddle for my second guitar, I put it back in and strung it up. Then I noticed I had put it in backwards. When I went to pull it out the nippers I was using slipped off and chipped the saddle. I sized it down so the chips were gone. Since it was too low now, I shimmed it u...
