MiniFlex 2Mic Model 7, $120 or best offer
This is a dual mic pickup system for acoustic guitars. I bought it at a Healdsburg Guitar Show in 2011. The box refers to the model as the MiniFlex 2Mic Model 7. It is still being made, though in short supply, since the makers were effected by a big fire: https://miniflexmic.com/ https://www.strings...

I use linen tape along the lines of this stuff: https://burnleyandtrowbridge.com/products/36-yd-roll-natural-dutch-linen-tape-save-10?variant=32248516870231 I dye it oxblood first, just because I want it to look interesting if someone is poking around inside one of my guitars. https://www.dharmatrad...

Recommendations sought: pick-up for an acoustic bass
I have a Fender acoustic bass guitar. It sounds great, but it is kind of quiet. It has some no-name piezo pickup, but the preamp has died. I thought about taking it down to my local guitar store and having them replace the pickup, but then I thought, what the heck, I'm a luthier, I should do it myse...

Wood storage, tonewood storage - ideas?
Well, hell must have frozen over, because I finally cleaned out my garage. Now, I have a fair-sized stack of tonewood that I need to figure out how to store. In this case, "fair-sized" means larger than a suitcase, smaller than a Volkswagen. Maybe the size of a dishwasher or a stove, all i...

Want to try making a hammer dulcimer?
I am cleaning my garage out and found a box of running pegs, a tuning lever, and four rolls of music wire (sizes 7 to 10).
Any one want to try making a hammer dulcimer? I'll mail you the stuff. First claim gets it.

Re: Recognize this tool?
Thanks for the help, folks. I knew it had to be something like that, but I couldn't figure out how it could attach to a router. The missing item of information was that it went with the StewMac Dremel base and screwed into that. Seeing the photos of it in action on the StewMac website brought back m...

Re: Recognize this tool?
No blade. The post nearest the quarter has a sleeve that rotates easily. The knurled knob on the other side is used to move the cross bar back and forth. On the under side, there is a bolt with a flattened head to lock the cross bar in place.

Recognize this tool?
I was looking in the bottom of my old guitar-making toolbox (oh, for the days where one tool box could hold them) and I found this tool. File Jan 02, 4 43 35 PM.jpeg - the photo appears to be rotated to the left 90 degrees in the preview, but not when I click on it. Hunh? - Does anyone recognize it?...

Pickguard adhesive
I'm close to done with a multiscale baritone and, with the player for whom it is intended, I should probably put on a pickguard. I bought a sheet of "pickguard adhesive" from LMI. What I received was a sheet of 3M 467MP adhesive film. One removes one backing layer, attaches it to the pickg...

Re: A guitar that rings - how?
Trevor, I'm thinking about your suggestion to increase the impedance of the sides. However, I usually build with a live back. I took a look at the design book and tried to figure out the connection between high impedance sides and a live back. I had thought the possibilities might be: 1) whoa, usele...

Re: A guitar that rings - how?
I would, in any case, try to build pretty light. I've made my beginner's overbuilt guitars and now I need to err on the other side so that I know where that line is. The suggestions that are operational, at least for me so far, are: -test the soundboard for stiffness (using tap methods from Gore &am...

A guitar that rings - how?
I am planning a steel-string for a friend of mine and he particularly likes it when his guitars "ring", that is, when they continue to make sound for a long time after his last strum. I am trying to think of what characteristics will lead to a guitar that rings. I would say a light bridge ...

Re: In search of inlay technique
OK, I had been using a slower speed on my Dremel. I will switch to a higher speed. I expect I was going too deep at first, too. [Not the first time that I have unwittingly sacrificed quality for speed. My history of orange-peel finish problems bears testimony.] Also, I will try cutting the outline ...

Re: Please, your thoughts on rasps
I ended up buying a cabinet-maker's rasp, 200 mm in length, #11 grain pattern from Liogier. It was the cabinet-maker's rasp that was marked as "indispensable" on their website. I wanted a relatively fine grain pattern because I sometimes use African Blackwood for decorative elements. That ...

Please, your thoughts on rasps
I don't use a rasp all that often in my guitar building, but I do use rasps when I am shaping a neck. I have heard great things about the rasps from Liogier http://www.liogier-france.fr so I am thinking about buying one or two. Does anyone have any thoughts about what kinds of rasps are the most use...
