Re: Bridge width relationship to top braces?

If I may I have a question too with regard to bridges on arch tops. I just rebuilt a 1957 silvertone arch top. I reused the original rosewood bridge. It sounds great! I now would like to put a pick up on this instrument. I dont want the jazz sound but rather would like to keep the old timey sound. A...

Re: The "Reclaimed Materials" Challenge- discuss rules here

One of my winter's projects, my first electric guitar.
This is not an entry but just my contribution to using reclaimed materials that I wanted to share in honor of this challenge.
Thanks for looking

Re: The "Reclaimed Materials" Challenge- discuss rules here

I have an electric I just finished that is build from reclaimed wood and solid surface scraps. I totally blew it on minimal cost( for the guide lines of this challenge) once I bought electronics. It was built more for its theme than to save any money. It's theme dictated the materials used. It looke...

Re: guitar shaped flat top mandolin

Hi Bryan, thanks for the reply. So this instrument is braced very similar to yours in that it was braced like a guitar with maybe 2 lower tone bars(couldn't find the pics from way back). The bridge sets directly over a maple plate much like on a guitar. I'll tell you, it was made on the fly as just ...

Re: guitar shaped flat top mandolin

I looked back in the thread now and followed the links. Sounds great!, it chops better than I would have thought too based on what mine does. Once again, very nice! thanks for sharing.

Re: guitar shaped flat top mandolin

Bryan, I think you may have solved a major headache for me. I built this mando out of scrap and reject materials for my daughter and I employed an arch top neck angle and bridge. Not long after i strung it up I noticed the string tension starting to collapse the top. I wondered how a glued on bridge...

An "intro page" ?

Hi folks, forgive me if I missed an intro page but thought I'd ask anyway. I participate on a counter fabricators forum. Over there we have an "intro Page" and it's fun to learn about fellow craftspeople who are passionate about the same things. I have had opportunity to actually stop an v...

Re: Early '60's Harmony Glue

I am in the process of rebuilding a "silvertone" arch top made in 1957. It was left in a shed and came apart everywhere so decided to use it as a practice rebuild. I do agree that the glue could be a recorcinol type of glue. From my experience this type of glue is water proof and somewhat ...

Re: Pour-in inlays?

great video link! Maybe I can help here. I do lots and lots of poured inlays when I make cutting boards out of left over acrylic in my cabinet/counter shop in addition to guitar building. I mostly use polyester resin and metallic powders or pigments and sometimes crushed acrylic particles. For inter...
