Re: Take down spray booth ideas.

Hey, it's a topic I can talk about without complete ignorance! Short answer - I'd go with a 5 or 6 inch centrifugal blower. Long answer - I do not have a spray booth myself, simply because I haven't gotten around to it yet, but have done some research on this over the last few years using modeling f...

Re: Tenor Uke nut width

The Hana Lima 'Ia plan has 1-3/8" at the nut and 1-3/4" where it meets the body. I recently built a tenor with these specs and it feels right; an earlier one with a 1-1/2" nut seemed too wide to me. A tenor Fluke is 1-7/16" and 1-11/16".

Re: Banjo-Ukes

Well, I'm not an expert on banjo construction, but I can give you typical scale lengths for different sizes of ukes: soprano 13.5" concert 15" tenor 17" baritone 20" These vary a bit by maker. I only have one banjo-uke (an old Stella, nothing fantastic,) and it just has a wood ri...

Re: What string spacing at bridge for a tenor uke?

I do what Chris does. I like the string to be parallel to the edge of the fretboard. Except I don't space the center strings exactly evenly - I space them so the distance between the strings is constant. Otherwise the space between the heavier strings is too narrow. In my opinion.

Re: Cedar and Sycamore Machete

I like it a lot, but I'm a sucker for rope binding anyhow. And now the questions - Did you make your own binding, and if so, were there any special tips of techniques you found useful? What bracing pattern did you use? How did you do your neck joint? I build ukes when I can, which is not often enoug...

Re: Sound Hole Labels?

I use inkjet printed on regular, but not lightweight, paper. Cut it out with a new X-Acto blade, sign and date it, and a quick spritz of clear lacquer once the handwriting is dry. Then glue it in with either hide glue (okay, unflavored gelatin) or white glue. It works well enough for me. I think the...
