I use oval soundholes on my acoustics. CAD drawing, template, router with guide bush.

Unscrew the frog and clean away any paint on the mating surfaces. I use thicker blades and cap irons to imprve the cut. I use a router cove bit. It runs inside a guide bush that bears against a template. The template is round, cut with a forstner bit. You can make the template to suit your bits and guide bush. I stick the template to the guitar body with a couple of small dabs of hot glue.
