Re: Squareneck wood body tricone

Hi Freeman,

I'd be happy to get the files again as I may have lost them ;-)

Like to see that this post is still of interest

Re: Problem with cocobolo oil

Thanks for your help.

I finished the fretboard with CA glue, applied with the tip of the ginger, and sanded/polished like a varnish:

Re: Problem with cocobolo oil

Can I use white glue to glue the cocobolo fretboard on the black acacia top instead of the traditional epoxy? I'd like to glue the fretboard after the finish is applied on the body, as I proceeded for my tricone, because I want to be able to remove glue excess from the angle between fretboard and bo...

Re: Problem with cocobolo oil

Thanks Michael.
The problem is that it will really be uneasy to remove the frets when the fretboard will be bound...

Problem with cocobolo oil

Hello everbody, I've began to built a squareneck spider bridge dobro-style weissenborn, using the same side mold than the one I used to built my tricone. The sides are already bent but I still don't own the wood for top and back (I ordered black acacia just like for the tricone: http://www.mimf.com/...

Re: Squareneck wood body tricone

Nate,

Yes... Black acacia (acacia melanoxyton) really looks like Koa (acacia koa), they are cousins... but black acacia is (still) cheaper...

Here's a link to a sample sound file

Please don't shoot at the guitar player...

Re: Squareneck wood body tricone

Hi Chuck,

Thank you for the kind words :-)

All the woods are coming from Tasmania, the tasmanian blackwood and the binding is tiger myrtle (only the fingerboard is african ebony, and "frets" are hard maple)

Re: Squareneck wood body tricone

I forgot to tell That I could built it from a DWG file that was sent by a MIMF member, Freeman. Thanks, Freeman!!
The finish is satin polyurethane two parts applied with a pad, not a spraygun (8 coats) over an epoxy seal.
The most challenging part was to bend the glued jointed back...

Re: MOP/Abalone inlays in light figured maple

Hi Romeo,

What do you mean by "laser"? Everything was done with a dremel motortool, microchisels and a small scraper grinded in a razor blade.
