Re: Backbowed Neck will not cooperate!
I changed the setup, i think the solution with a small inclination in the middle of the neck causes a non uniform radius. Now I made a radius in the wood underneath with a plane. Lets see with longer baking

Re: Backbowed Neck will not cooperate!
Thank you Barry. I will do that. I am actually clamping with some relief during the heating proces already. Only thing I wonder is if there is a even bow along the whole neck when doing this. I have placed the blanket on app 1cm thick multiplex and the neck on top. Under the multiplex I have plec a ...

Backbowed Neck will not cooperate!
Dear all, I wish you all a happy and healthy new year. I am working on a musicman 7 string guitar with backbow in it. Obviously the trussros can only tighten so no use there. I have been bending the neck in my jig with heat blanket up to 95C for like 30 mins or so. Looks good for a few days, but eve...

Using Kevlar instead of cleats for crack repair.
Helo everybody, hope you are all healthy where ever you are! I used some kevlar on my last build (Classical) as reinforcement for the inside. Very easy to apply, and extremely strong of course. It comes in very thin woven sheets. I have always used cleats for crack repair, like most have been doing ...

Re: Gibson lost his head(stock)
Good feedback David. especially what you are saying about putting splines, where I just replace wood with wood. The glue surface angles are so shallow that the grain is long enough and the glue joint strong. To make it stronger i have to do a bs or do the cf thing. I have got the cf, epoxy and peelp...

Re: Gibson lost his head(stock)
I have agreed to put some reinforcements in. I have done this before on similar neck repairs. Did it by hand those times, cut out 2 slots and inlayed splines. I am wondering whether or not to make a jig to use the router for cutting the slots. Is it worth it? Does it make a difference really ? I gue...

Re: Gibson lost his head(stock)
Spent some (a lot) of time this today on reshaping the neck. Worked quite well, it looks ok I think. I am not sure whether or not to install some reinforcements now. I learned 2 things today: 1) Plan how you have the grain running with regards to preference of shaping later in. Towards the headstock...

Re: Gibson lost his head(stock)
i am not familiar with backstraps. i assume its a reinforcement by applying a sheet or multiple sheets of carbon fiber? I do have carbon fiber since i have worked with it before on bikes. I have done prior reinforcements with wooden inlays. Maybe that is the easiest way to follow here. On the other ...

Re: Gibson lost his head(stock)
Thanks Barry. Should work like this. and the original headstock can stay on. Do you see any problems I am forgetting about at this moment?

Re: Gibson lost his head(stock)
It is some custom 355 Brian. The client bought it in the US and I guess he took it home without loosening the strings. In the airport the baggage handlers together with gravity probably did the rest... This is one of those projects that financially are not very interesting but we all kind of love I ...

Re: Gibson lost his head(stock)
Thank you guys for the input. I am first going to attempt the way I described. If this doesnt work I will do a new neck. Gibsons are the best guitars ever made for Luthiers

Re: Gibson lost his head(stock)
My idea is this: ( I hope I can sort of make it clear without drawing the thing out) There are 2 pieces as shown on the picture that fit under the headstick plate. First I want to glue these 2 back. This will bring the plate and binding that are bended slichtly upward back to level again. These 2 pi...

Gibson lost his head(stock)
