There isn't much room , I planed the top down about 5/16 " any more and the truss rod would have been exposed .

PS , in regards to the neck , I plane the body portion to allow for the top thickness . on some instruments the back may get the same treatment

Finally finished , put on the 24K gold plated Optima strings and wired it up , beautiful crystal clear tone.

In order to account for the thicker top I had to recess the bridge , I put a copper foil base plate under the bridge , then used a cover piece in the gap

+1 on tung oil , I've gon that route on a few , also french polish which is what I use these days after it cures buff it out and it is slick as teflon

I spent several hours working on the final shape and feel . The neck and body are the most ergonomic I've built or played . Added a headstock cap of the same curly koa , sanded down to 400 then two rounds of french polish ( so far) I rub it in until it stops sucking it each round , wait a day or two...

6 coats of french polish , sanded down to 600 (wet/dry) then 4 coats of lacquer , 1 more round before the buff out

the top is 3/8" from Northridge . I don't use veneers . Yes the neck is a Carvin , I've been using them for 15 years , always well made and good service.
