Re: Building a Fender Jaguar Neck
I think, the order you propose for building the neck would add a lot of difficulty, having a shaped/profiled neck and then fitting the fretboard would add so many complications... If you could get someone to build a neck install the truss rod etc but leave it square it would make the job ALOT easie...

Re: Building a Fender Jaguar Neck
Thanks Henrique for your reply. Yes ideally I would build it myself, but I'm not setup to do the work and my experience is lacking so if I could have the bulk of the heavy lifting done that would certainly be good. The rest of the work (inlays, binding, finishing) is high precision but I'm actually ...

Building a Fender Jaguar Neck
i'm looking to have a replacement neck made for a Fender Jaguar. In order to get exactly what I want I'm looking to have the neck partially made and then assemble and finish the neck myself. The neck is to have white binding and block inlays. I'm thinking of getting the neck shaped without the finge...

Re: Cutting F holes in existing guitar?
I guess it worked. Sanding the fuzz off the back side was tough but possible. Used a downcut bit and the edge of the finish is nice. Sealed the sides with shellac. Very nice job indeed. Compared to this, cutting F holes would be a walk in the park, (for someone with the right level of skill and exp...

Re: Cutting F holes in existing guitar?
Thanks all for the tips. Probably will never get done, but it's interesting anyway to know the process. No guitar was harmed by this thread!

Bonjour Mario,
The instrument is finished in polyurethane. I know this whole idea falls in the category of "illegal abortion". Just an idea I was contemplating...
Not a done thing by any stretch. Harmless enough to discuss though.

Re: Cutting F holes in existing guitar?
Would applying binding (and a layer of polyurethane finish on top) pose any huge difficulty in this scenario? The goal being to make the finished work look exactly as an original factory job. Can polyurethane be applied neatly enough with a brush and polished for a seamless appearance with the surro...

Re: Cutting F holes in existing guitar?
Out of curiosity why do you want to cut holes in it? And if it is a Country Gentleman you'd really ruin the guitar IMHO. Hi Neal, I like the Country Gent and other Gretsch guitars but never could quite get with the painted F hole thing. I think *that* ruins the guitar for me. ;) Painted F holes loo...

Re: Cutting F holes in existing guitar?
Thanks Bill for your reply. Yes I figured this would perhaps require some specific tools to cut the holes out having no access from the back.

Cutting F holes in existing guitar?
What would be the difficulty level in cutting F holes into a hollow body guitar that doesn't have them (think Gretsch Country Gentleman but with no access opening in the back)?
