Re: How thin on EI Rosewood sides?

Thanks guys for the responses. I don't think I'll risk it on a steel string. I'm not experienced enough to manage outside of the normal parameters. I'll just order another set of sides only and try to match up as best to the back as I can. But, do you think it would be ok for either a classical buil...

How thin on EI Rosewood sides?

I picked up an East Indian Rosewood set on fleabay that was evidently a reject from Martin for a pretty good deal. Question on SG of brace wood

I am looking at some bracewood which is Engleman and is listed at .35 SG. Is that SG in the right ballpark, or is it a bit low? Its well quartered and split versus sawn. This will be for a Sitka topped Grand Auditorium build. Sorry, still a bit of a beginner here.

Lacquer is 'gelling up' on me

Brand new to trying French Polish, and am experiencing a 'gelling up' or 'balling up' of the lacquer. I have made up what I think is about a small amount of 2lb cut (2oz of flakes with 8 oz denatured alcohol). At first it seemed to be ok although the flakes were not fully disolved, but then it start...
