Re: New Build Pics

That bubinga is very heavy and dense. That body has been chambered to relieve the weight.
It will get some carving also.
Thanks for looking Bryan.

Build Pics

It has been a long while since I posted anything here. After a devastating turn of events, I am finally back in my shop. Here are a couple of builds that I started quite some time ago. In this series of pics, they are at the Grain Filling stage, and in fact you are seeing the first coat. They are st...

Re: Low-hum single-coil?

You said it hums less depending on how you're standing.
That means you are picking up 60 cycle interference from somewhere.
Could be almost anything. Lights are the biggest culprit, but a bad ground in the house wiring can also contribute.
Even old wiring in the wall can add hum.

Re: It's Been a While

Thanks for your considerations. My wife was my biggest supporter and best friend. I loved her with my whole heart. Yes, it is a rough patch for sure. The hardest thing is finding new direction. I am glad to be back in shop though, and I have 3 new guitars and a bass on the go. I have also started do...

It's Been a While

Hey guys. I was fairly active on the forum for quite a while but ran into some hard times. My beautiful wife of over 41 years, passed away in September from cancer. I can tell you that this is something I would not wish on my worst enemy. I have only got into my shop this last few weeks to do a bit ...

I started this post quite some time ago, and I thought I should finish it off with a couple of pictures of the finished product.

Here is the new fretboard. Chechen.

Re: Neck Rebuild

Yes John, the neck is clamped underneath with the required slot marked. I then simply center the bit on the mark, and set the end stops. In my jig the bottom base can be removed, so the jig could theoretically be used on an acoustic guitar with the neck still attached. I say theoretically because I ...

Re: Need to find a bridge...

I have used their bridges on a half dozen or more guitars, and have been very satisfied with them. Players love them, as there are no sharp screws to bother the heel of your hand. I like them to work on too. The tone I get is an improvement also. I know I have talked about them a lot on this forum, ...

Re: Need to find a bridge...

Did you get a response from Babizc Full Contact Hardware?
It has been a while since I used their T.O.M. style bridge, and the guitar it was on has been sold, other wise I would have given you the measurements.

Re: reasonably price variable height bench

That is a good idea. Allows the worker to adjust to a height that can prevent all kinds of posture related injuries.
200 is not too bad a deal.
How solid is it? Wobbly when extended?

Yes, I have both models, and use them all the time. When I need a scraper, I always go to these first.
Yeah, a sharpening method would be nice to come up with.

Re: Squeegee for epoxy

I use different squeegies for different parts of the guitar. I have 2 short (I cut down 2 - 8 inch to about 3 inch) for the sides and cutouts. One I trimmed to a convex shape, the other I trimmed to a concave shape. Then I have another longer 10 inch for the flat surfaces. As long as I use alcohol t...

Re: Need to find a bridge...

Another option which has not been mentioned is filing the saddles down to a height that would work. I looks as though you have about 1/8 inch from the bottom of your straight edge, to the top of the saddle. You can file the grooves down another 1/16th and be really close. You just have to watch the ...

Re: Need to find a bridge...

I realize the price of these bridges is high, but have a look at the Babicz Full Contact Hardware bridge.
It may adjust a bit lower. You do not have to use the spacer plates shown. You also do not have to use their tail piece.

Re: Is guitar building like crack or nicotine?

I'm on my 15th build. I have sold 8 of them, and seeing them in the hands of someone who can really play is justification. I am 64 and headed into retirement at the end of November. I have a pretty serious stock of hand picked wood, and am looking forward to helping that wood find its purpose. Repai...
