Re: Stabilizing punky cottonwood
Thanks. I've been looking at Cactus Juice also. I'd love to hear if anyone has used either one of these resins.

Stabilizing punky cottonwood
I'm collecting info on how to stabilize punky wood to use for a bass guitar body.
There seems to be a few methods. I'm leaning toward using a vacuum setup but
I haven't decided on what type of solution to use.
I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Re: Affordable (cheap) dovetail template?
Thanks for the advise. I like the idea of a bolt on too.

Affordable (cheap) dovetail template?
I'm about to build my first acoustic guitar. I've been shopping for a dovetail or straight (bolt on neck) template set so I can rout the neck joint but they are crazy expensive! Now I know that everything in the luthier world is crazy expensive but matched template sets for neck joints seem exponent...

Re: does it matter if strings dont perfectly line up with the center of poles?
I think it's more of a visual problem (if it's even a problem). I sometimes have a hell of a time lining up strings with poles and it doesn't seem to affect the sound of my guitars. It drives me crazy to look at it though.

Re: V string V
Thanks David. 35 inch scale. The inlay was a pain in the butt. I kept getting chip out by the fret slots while squaring up the corners with a chisel. The next time I use block inlay I think I'll mark the fret slots and cut them after the inlay. I also lost one (huge chip) while hammering in the fret...

Re: V string V
Thanks Mark. Can I ask what you didn't like about the neckthroughs that you've played? My only real issue is the fact that you can't replace the neck. I seem to get more cautious as the build progresses for that same reason.

Re: V string V
It's a real scorpion that I pulled out of my swimming pool. I let it dry out for a couple of weeks. Then I gave it a couple of good coats of clear acrylic and poured the epoxy resin in the inlay recess. I cast the inlay back in October so I think it's pretty stable. There was a bunch of hoping invol...

Re: V string V
Thanks. I didn't think I did such a great job with the control cover but it works. I'm really happy with the binding. I'll have to see if I have a better picture.
