Shop size?
Well...it's time to build a shop. What are your opinions on shop size and layout. I am making acoustic steel string guitars. Also need a walk in spray booth. I've made 20 guitars in a shop which is basically 8 feet by 10 feet, with some equipment in an adjoining garage. Too damn small. Here are my p...

Starting an acoustic bass guitar project. Need direction
I am starting an acoustic bass guitar project. I have a few basic parameters worked out but will need direction on everything else. I've build 20 guitars and I am getting some of my chops down. I am using a Gibson J200 jumbo mold and plan on going as deep as my side wood will permit...around 5 inche...

Re: Peg head repair question.
Looks like putting a little pressure on it to slightly open it up and applying either hide glue or thin CA to penetrate fully into the crack and releasing pressure with a little clamping if possible might be all that is needed. I will try to fill in the details before suggesting. I remember the guit...

Peg head repair question.
Because I build, all my friends now think I repair too! So here is a repair question. I have a friend with a 40 year old Washburn D28 that has a crack between the A and D tuner on the peg head. I do not know if the crack runs all the way through to the back of the peg head or to the treble side of t...

Re: Neck resonance issue!?
Thanks all. I have rechecked for the vibration and it seems gone. I have noticed on this guitar that there is doming at the bridge area that is more that is usual for my guitars. The action is a little higher and the G string is dead. I advised the client of this and recommended that he use light st...

Neck resonance issue!?
This is a repair question. A guitar I made 2 years ago came to me for repair of a buzz. The client thought it was a lose bracing buzz. This guitar is a Dreadnaught and very deep. It is very resonant and loud. It has a mechanical vibration when open G is played loud. When other strings are tuned to G...

All righty then..... What 'cha do with all that dust when it needs to be tossed? I live in the mountains and am reluctant to dump it out in the back 40.

Re: Cutaway "pocket" building tips
Thanks for the info. Questions remain for me about the fabrication of the inside block (shaping vs weight) and the sequence of everything in the build. Looks like fabricating some kind of mock up would be the way to go. Hmmm...gona have to think about this.

Cutaway "pocket" building tips
I am considering building a OM with a cutaway pocket. I am not sure if I am calling it by it's correct name but it appears to me to be a nifty little pocket built into the treble side at the neck. Built by carving into a solid block on the treble side of the upper bout, creating a space for the left...
