I use my home-built pin router for roughing out the inside of archtop tops and backs after carving the outside. I also like it for making wooden pickup rings and roughing out relief carvings.

I would start with treating it like a dead spot on a bass. Try adding weight to the headstock with a c-clamp and see if it is moved or changed. Adding small weights to the bridge area or top may give some more information.

Using mechanical metalic fasteners is an old technique. Many early violin family instruments used nails, as did some viols even earlier. They generally were glued also.
