Fender Acoustasonic 90 repair
I have a partially working Acoustasonic 90 that I am having a difficult time finding information about. It has no volume or noise from either of the channel inputs, but the aux input on the back works fine. I have cleaned and re-seated the ribbon cables connecting the circuit boards together and don...

If your fingerboard has no taper the frets will converge.

Re: Fitting bass neck to body fender style
I prefer to fit the body to the neck, at least when that is appropriate and especially if a lot of material must be removed. If the neck must be fit to the body, I would tend to work wherever it will be the least seen and the least material removed. If the bass side of the neck fits well and is alig...

Re: Pot Values for Bass
The value of a volume pot effects frequency response because the impedance of the pickup varies with frequency. DC resistance is an oversimplified and relatively meaningless measurement of a guitar pickup. "Resistance tells you as much about a pickup's tone and output as the shoe size tells you...

Re: Pin Routers
I use my home-built pin router for roughing out the inside of archtop tops and backs after carving the outside. I also like it for making wooden pickup rings and roughing out relief carvings.

Re: Chasing a wolf tone ...
I would start with treating it like a dead spot on a bass. Try adding weight to the headstock with a c-clamp and see if it is moved or changed. Adding small weights to the bridge area or top may give some more information.

Rodgers makes Stauffer style machines, but they are not inexpensive.

Re: Variable High Pass Filter
This one has a few potential uses. It's a simple passive filter to roll lows off with a corner frequency between 50 and 150 hz. with a slope around 20db/octave. A low setting, around 50-75 hz, keeps the signal from being muddy and keeps equipment from trying to reproduce unnecessary frequencies. Eve...

Re: What Kind of tone cardboard did they use?
I realize that a single quote doesn't mean much, but if anyone other than Leo says something about a strat with validity, it is likely someone considered by FMIC to be a master builder.

Re: How do you price?
I find my pricing to be polarizing; about half of the people that hear a price wonder why someone would pay that much for a _______, while the other half ask how I can make them so cheaply. My prices go up as my lead time goes up, and for now I've stopped taking custom orders until I catch up. I agr...

Re: Tuner Machine at Bridge. Anyone tried it
I've done a few with tuners on the "wrong" end. It can work well, but there are a few issues to be aware of. If the strings are too long behind the bridge feedback can be an issue. Getting the right amount of downforce on the bridge is important; too little angle and it will be tough to ke...

Re: What Kind of tone cardboard did they use?
I was wondering about getting the frets to stay. I assume they are glued. "It sounds like a Strat" -just goes to show you how much tone wood may or may not contribute to tone.

Re: bolt on neck question
Using mechanical metalic fasteners is an old technique. Many early violin family instruments used nails, as did some viols even earlier. They generally were glued also.

I made the knobs, and they're not concentric. They are smaller than they look, at under 0.75" at the widest point.

The controls in this one are master volume, pickup selector switch, neck tone with push/pull series/parallel switch, and bridge tone. All pots are 500k audio taper, both tone caps are .022mf, and there is a 100k/.002mf parallel treble bleed circuit. The k&k is wired direct to the ring on a stere...
