8-32 is a perfect bolt if you are retrofitting a strat/tele or similar guitar with 4 bolts. Standard threaded inserts work well. I like the ones with the hex drive as it makes them easy to control as you put them in. I use stainless bolts but only because they are most readily available at my local ...

I'm certainly no expert on Epis. That was just speculation on my part. There are lots of ways to do just about everything in this game and we all find ways that suit us best in the end. Good luck with it.

I agree with Barry.. Carving before or after makes little difference. In my own order of operations, the frets go in before the carving for two reasons: 1. I feel the frets protect the fingerboard from little bumps and bruises that might come along in the carving. 2. It gives me a chance to feel exa...

Clay, thank you for the pictures. I was aware of some similar examples but it always seemed like more work. Now that I have done it, the benefits become more obvious. More experiments are certainly warranted.

I had some plum wood that was as hard as any ebony I've used. Beautiful pink/brown/purple/orange swirls. It was too short for fingerboards and so has ended up as bridges and headplates etc. Perhaps this really hard wood was just a particular tree?
