Agree with Clay.
I use the harbor freight $15 guns. They do have a turbine kit as well. I've heard good things about the jamb gun, but I use the full size.
I spray 2k automotive, not shellac, but the consistency of the materials should be about the same.

Re: Table saw won't start
A lot of motors have a small molded sheetmetal cover on the side of the motor. It may be about 3 inches long. Inside is a "capacitor". The motor gets extra power from that capacitor to start up. They go bad once in a while. Pull the cover off, expose the leads on the cap, and short the lea...

Make a simple jig with plywood with the same curve as the body, lay the jack plate into it, and smack it up good with a rubber mallet to bend it to fit.

Re: First build buff out
Several good answers. Eddie Mcrae has good advice. The final step is to use a "swirl remover". I use mguires as well. Then after the finish has fully cured... 1-2 months, then hit it with some 'renaisance' paste wax. It's a synthetic waxthat helps keep finger prints from showing up. Never ...

Re: Gun for water based lacquer
I use harbor freight guns with automotive paints. I believe they're 1.4 tips. The larger gun goes on sale all the time for about $15. It's an air hog though. You need a decent size compressor.
No reason to buy an expensive gun until you have the skills to utulize a quality (expensive!) gun.

Re: Peghead: 5/8" too thick?
.100 would probably work ok- but it's far from ideal... You do need to consider the thickness of your finish as well. Some go on a lot thicker than others.... Automotive primer, paint and clearcoat are probably .025-.035 thick (combined front and back of headstock) leaving you .065-.075 of thread- o...

Re: body thickness
Also depends on the bridge you want to use. A tremolo bridge has the bridge block going through the body. They can be shaved down easy enough. I made a pair with strat tremolos at 1.33" thick (on purpose) For a TOM or any other style of bridge besides a tremolo, that thickness isnt an issue. Ag...

Re: Issues with string-through vs. stop tailpiece?
If getting even spacing is an issue.... a couple tips. 1. Drill the top hole first. With a nice sharp drill bit- and go SLOW. Peck at it. Pull the bit out often to clear the chips from the bit and send it back in. Doing this will keep the small diameter bit going as straight as possible through the ...

Re: Issues with string-through vs. stop tailpiece?
I like the string thru setup because it's the cleanest looking besides a wraparound bridge. I've done quite a few this way. The less hardware/smaller bridge leave more of the face of the guitar for carving or artwork- which is why I prefer it. The *PRIMARY* concern, is getting your neck angle correc...

Any experience with Roland GK-kit for midi guitar?
Customer/friend just called and said he wants this installed. Anyone use one before? Does it come with software? What do you think of this product?
Thanks,
Julian

Re: Julian Giffords double neck. [pics]
Jason, it's a blatant copy of a Jackson double neck king V. My headstock shape is different, but the body size and layout is identicle to the Jackson design. Dave Mustaine from 'Megadeath' had 2 different ones back in the 80's. They probably got the idea from BC Rich "Bich" 10 or 12 string...

Re: White "plastic" binding.
Bare wood. This is why it works so well. It melts into the wood. It is actually a real IPS weld on product- #4707 which if you look at the MSDS it's basically 2:1 MEK/acetone and uses ABS bits to thicken it to a gel. The MSDS tries to be vague and say 10-30% and 20-60% or some such... but if you ave...

Re: ROS, now just... OS?
If you can stand the noise, and have a good sized compressor, a pneumatic ROS is fantastic! Its so easy to swing over curves because there is very little rotational mass like an electric. The difference is night and day. Though I've played with a pneumatic, I only own an electric.

Re: Looking for ideas on over arm pin router use
Big time SCORE!!!!!! Make the right patterns and use it for the bulk of your routing. It will make it silly fast and easy. Outside body shapes, truss rod slots, pickup/electronics cavities, neck pockets, even radius the edge of body, or like pointy guitars that have a 45 deg angle that tapers like a...
