Re: 16/15 Hammered Dulcimer Bridge Placement
I just saw this post for the first time ten months later. Wow! Not a single answer! Anyway, here's an answer for those who might have the same question: The treble bridge should be placed at exactly 2/5ths of the distance between side bridges. Final intonation may require some minute adjustments to ...

Re: Anyone Building Spinets
A year or ten ago, I began researching the idea of building a spinet. My research led me to draw my own plans for an Italian square spinet, rather than the odd-looking English one. That work left me happy but exhausted. So I went back to building bowed dulcimers for a quick fix. Eventually, I got ar...

Re: bowed instrument hard cases
Here's how my basic bowed dulcimer looks like. The dimensions are in my previous post. I have already made a wooden case that weighs a ton, but I'm still hoping for something a bit lighter and more elegant than a crate with a handle.

bowed instrument hard cases
I make bowed dulcimers and I need to find a source for ready-made hard cases. I have searched the internet up and down for a simple but, alas, elusive answer: what is the total dimension -- tip to toes total, not just body length -- of a 1/2 size cello or a large viola case. I get tons of charts but...

fret calculator
Once upon a time on MIMF there was a mountain dulcimer fret calculator called e-fret. Over the years, I downloaded it several times, but the darn thing was in the habit of deleting itself after a while. Now it disappeared for the last time, and I can't find it anywhere, not even in my back up files!...
