Re: Cap size for bass
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Due to time constraints, I was hoping for a cut and dried, one best option answer. I ultimately tried a .022, .047 and .1. After switching back and forth several times, I believe it was the .022 I ended up using. Thanks again for your input.

Cap size for bass
Hi all. Just wondering, what is your preference/suggestion for capacitor size for a passive bass (diMarzio ultra jazz pickups, vol/vol/tone (500/500/250k) pots).
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Where is silver solder used, good ,bad?
Thanks guys. This still leaves me wondering:
1.) Is there a "best" (within reason) solder for guitar/bass electronics?
2.) Are there solders I should avoid, and why?

Re: Where is silver solder used, good ,bad?
Greg, I hope you don't mind me posing a question on your thread, since it's already started and all about solder. If you'd like me to start my own, I certainly will. Here's my question: The last time I bought solder, it was 96/4 lead free, silver bearing solder from Radio Shack. It was years ago, an...

Re: Looking for amazing knobs
JC, I like the idea of inlaying something in the top of the knob. Unfortunately, I don't have a CNC, or the time to carve something like that. But it's a great idea!

Re: Seeking donations for a charity build
I'm not much of an acoustic person, but that's a good looking guitar! I've never seen that silver color on an acoustic before...I like it! Without knowing anything about the organization you made this for (simply judging by the name), I have a feeling I may have a bigger target audience, so hopefull...

What type of instrument was it? And could I ask what it went for?

Re: Seeking donations for a charity build
Bob, that $10k is a pipe dream. Honestly, I would be shocked if it went that high. As it's for a charity, anything is possible, but realistically? I doubt it. We are planning on this being an online auction, so you would definitely have a shot at getting this! We are tentatively considering somethin...

Re: Seeking donations for a charity build
Thanks Bob! If you've read the rest of this thread, you know this is to benefit cystic fibrosis, which is, if you didn't know, essentially a disease of the lungs. Originally I wanted to airways to be brighter green, almost luminescent, but couldn't find resin/material to make this happen, within my ...

Re: Looking for amazing knobs
Thanks for the heads up Charlie. Since I am donating this instrument, I didn't think this would be a problem, but I will look at posting in the area of the link you provided.

Looking for amazing knobs
Hi all! I am nearing the end of a charity build to benefit cystic fibrosis research, and I'm looking for some ideas for knobs (3) that will really set this bass apart. And if someone was interested in making knobs, I would love to see your offers! Lets see what you've got!

Re: Pot education please
Thanks for the responses gentlemen. Gordon, most of my basses I have wired as you are planning, vol/blend/tone. Someone recently suggested vol/vol/tone, citing that you may get better tone with that setup. Another bonus I'm just realizing is that you don't have to wonder which way to turn the blend ...

Re: Pot education please
Thanks for the response Brian.
Now I'm looking for opinions. Would a push/pull "slap switch" make this bass more appealing, or would it just be added fluff that won't make much of a difference.
Also, can I even incorporate a "slap switch" in a passive bass?

Pot education please
Hi all. I'm looking to learn more about pots. I have watched just a couple videos on YouTube about the difference between 250 and 500 K pots but want to know much more. My questions are specifically directed towards pots used in basses. Is there a way to tell if a pot is a linear taper or audio tape...

Re: Jazz bass pickup spacing
Bill, Thanks for the suggestion. I have thought about doing something like that, but I barely have the time to build the bass itself, let alone a prototype R&D model. Besides, I'm not sure I have the ear to tell the difference between one position and another. What I'd like is to find the dimens...

Jazz bass pickup spacing
I've looked online and can't find a definitive answer. I know Fender changed the location of the bridge pickup (either .25 or.4, depending on the source) in the early '70's, then changed it back in the early '80's. But I haven't been able to find a location from the nut, or between pickups. Can anyo...
